Embedding Video in Your Posts

Postby Ron » Wed Sep 19, 2007 8:07 am

...is now implemented, both FLV and WMV (or audio using WMV).

When you post or reply to a topic, you'll see the newly added buttons in the "formatting" section just above the posting text box. Choose the video format you would like to post, it will add these tags for you:

[flvvideo][/flvvideo] OR [wmvvideo][/wmvvideo]

Simply provide a full URL (link) to the video in between the tags, whether it's in our Gallery or off site, doesn't matter.

This is what your embed should look like:

[flvVideo]http://muvipix.com/cpg/albums/userpics/10015/SparkleFlare.flv[/flvVideo]

[wmvVideo]http://muvipix.com/cpg/albums/userpics/10053/stmo_Greetings_Ver1.wmv[/wmvVideo]

Just select "Preview" to make sure you have the correct formatting and link.

Note: I've added the actual URL to the videos (and images) in the Gallery. You can right-click-copy the link to paste in between the tags. Don't use the link in the file information area. I've attached an image to indicate the URL location.

Let me know if you have any questions.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

I've added "Full Screen" functionality to the FLV video Players in the forum and Gallery - usually just right-click (sometimes it's left-click) and select 'Go Full Screen' or 'Exit..."

Daughter wants to embed video on MySpace. Which is best, to upload here or Youtube for this purpose? If thru Muvipix, will the window look like the attachment of Lens Flare on this thread?

Went to YouTube and here are their suggestions for best video quality:

"YouTube accepts video files from most digital cameras, camcorders, and cell phones in the .WMV, .AVI, .MOV, and .MPG file formats.

We've found that files converted from .wmv to one of the other formats our webpage accepts generally have a lower playback quality than other file formats. If you have your source video in a format other than a .wmv file, I'd recommend encoding directly to MPEG4 (DivX, Xvid, SQV3) at 320x240, with 64k Mono MP3 Audio. If you have a source .wmv in high bitrate and larger resolution I'd recommend converting to MPEG4 at full resolution and then resizing to 320x240 using a high quality resizing algorithm - this can help reduce the number of artifacts you end up with."

Of course I am not sure exactly what it says. How to export using PE3?

We don't allow "hotlinking" (viewing muvipix content from another site) here, at least it's not officially in place... maybe someday. It's wasted bandwidth.

As far as youtube and quality, I'll let the experts chime in here. I'm pretty sure that myspace has provisions for embedding youtube videos out-of-the-box.

Our resident technical genius (one of them anyway) Robert Johnston discovered these ideal settings for YouTube output.

Unfortunately, he also reported recently that YouTube has overhauled their site and he's re-evaluating these settings. Still, they'll probably work better than a lot of other hybrid solutions.

Thanks for the adobe link. Daughter's friends have embeded video from YouTube on their pages. Copy paste the embed code from YouTube. Hoping I could do the same from here.

Thanks for the new link. Read a few things on hotlinking. This is using someone else's bandwidth and when they go over their limit for the month the site will be charged? Went to YouTube and MySpaceTV and both provide the URL & the code to embed. I am confused, is this illegal or not depending on the site?

Youtube and myspace are billion dollar sites. They don't have any problems with bandwidth usage.

Yes, it's totally legal for those sites... in fact, they encourage it because of the branding being all over the links/players.

Muvipix hopes to be a billion dollar site some day (we can dream, can't we?) and then we will allow hotlinking out-of-the-box :)

YouTube and MySpace use their own servers and internet connections to handle bandwidth, they don't care, they are huge.
Web Sites like Muvipix buy server space from a host that charges so much $$ per month for hosting and a limited (although rather large) amount of monthly bandwidth.
Bandwidth includes uploads and downloads, viewing steaming media like video in the gallery or online tutorials...
If we go over the bandwidth stated in our monthly contract then we are charged extra, sometimes that can be very expensive.

Is there a limit on the file size in the gallery? A limit on the total album size?

Thanks for all of the info. I was almost a hacker and didn't know it.

Individual file upload limit is 50MB and your overall limit in the Gallery (total - not album specific) is 200MB.

Are you having troubles uploading?

Thanks Ron, no problems loading. I have never thought about the gallery file size and started thinking about what it takes to maintain this site, bandwidth, etc. and didn't want to go over my limit. I did delete some files in my album a while back just to dejunk.

I uploaded the German Exch. on YouTube and it looks pixalated and not good quality (Like Muvipix :) )

Followed the YouTube settings from the adobe link, except...kept the fps at 29.9 since the youtube specs said 30 fps. Also, could not find the 'keyframe distance' on the advanced video settings in PE3. I did the other things mentioned and the interpret footage to 1.0 aspect, unchecked the constrain in prop. and set height to 112.5 and rendered.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWQ_Olowys8

Any ideas? The keyframe setting? The 29.7 fps?

Thanks.
