Table support?

Postby Ken Jarstad » Sat Jan 16, 2010 4:54 pm

According to BBCode docs, tables are supported. I tried to add a table to my signature to tidy up the listed of my new rig. The listing to the right hand side of the signature edit block says 'BBCode on." However, I could not get it to work.

In the muvipix FAQ under BBCode it says, "For more information on BBCode see the guide which can be accessed from the posting page." I could not find this guide. Am I blind? ::C

There are different implementations of BBCode. All BBCode tags are not necessarily enabled or available. Tables do not appear to have not been implemented/enabled here.

Not blind, just not observant. ( ...running for cover and ducking... ) Sorry, couldn't resist. ;)

You missed that the word BBCode is a link. Where it says "BBCode is ON", click on BBCode to get to the guide.

Hidden in plain sight, I would say. #-o

Well, nothing in the local guide mentions tables. So I will experiment here :-D

Nope! My conclusion is that, although BBCode is on, tables are not supported or perhaps not enabled.

To put it simply, if I created/enabled tables here, if you think about it more deeply, wrong use of them could skew the pages to oblivion (reading of topics). And the user would have to know, at least, basic html... this is usually the exception and not the rule.

What exactly did you want to do, Ken, as I'll be happy to create a custom table for your sig?

Hey, Ron! You and the crew are always on the ball and very attentive here. Kudos!

Let's just say the question is 'academic'. I had posted my new rig in my signature block and noticed it took up a lot of vertical space in each post. So I decide to make it more compact and thought, "I know tables - and BBCode supports tables, maybe I could make my signature look real neat".

Wow, I don't even think that way. But your experience here must be different. :-k

As it turns out the new, more compact and conventional method that everyone else uses is really good enough - and tables are not worth the extra effort. Thanks for the offer though! O:)

You need the full, long link, from youtube between the
Code: Select all
[YouTube] and [/YouTube]

Don't use the new short link that they have, I can never make that work.

When viewing the youtube video select "Share" and then click "Options" and then check the "long link" checkbox. Then copy the link, that always works for me...

I saw that you figured it out, thought it would be good to post this for anyone that might have trouble in the future.

You should be here, very warm winter in the Southeast U.S., 70 degrees (f) today (22 c).

Did everybody know that when composing a post the tool tip for Vimeo (and most of the others as I type this) explain exactly what's required but there's no tool tip for Youtube? Thought I'd mention it :-)

Thanks Ron, the only tool tip missing now is 'audio' - you just knew I'd mention that, eh? :-) Thanks for all your great work around here guys!
