Diamond VC500 and capture software

Postby tedco » Thu Jan 25, 2024 2:58 am

I have purchased Diamond VC500 capture card and installed on my Windows 11 pc.
During installation of the drivers, I found I had to disable Core Isolation for successfully driver installation.

Ez Grabber has an update and after installing this, I was able to get both video and audio captured.

However, when trying to capture using PotPlayer, I can only get audio and no video is displayed in the window.
I have followed Steve's excellent video on how to configure PotPlayer, but with no luck.

However, PotPlayer is great to view the captured video from Ez Grabber.

Any idea's on why I can't use PotPlayer to capture with Diamond VC500 ?

Are there any other recommended capture software I would be able to use ?

I installed also CyberLink PowerDirector 12, but I think it is rather outdated and seems to only capture in 640 x 480.

Thanks for your time and support,

I have to be honest with you, Ted. My success with Pot Player has been sporadic. I honestly don't know why it works and why it doesn't.

My most successful capture program is CyberLink's PowerDirector, which always works all the time and provides excellent results.

Even an older (cheaper) version of PowerDirector Ultimate will work -- every time and all the time. I've even created a tutorial on it, as you can see below.

To capture in high-def, click on the Profile button in the Capture workspace. Then, on the Profile Setup panel that opens, click New. Under the Video tab on the screen that opens, click the drop-down menu. You should see 1920x1080 listed. Save it as a Custom Profile and it should capture HD. I haven't tested it, but it should work.

Unfortunately, once I installed PowerDirector, my Pot Player capture quit working! I'll continue to investigate, but that's all I know for now. Sorry.

Good news, Ted! I think I may be onto something!

Go to the Pot Player's menu by clicking the down arrow in the upper left. Navigate to Open, then Open Webcam/Other Device. This should make your video playback visible in the monitor. Then you can go back to the menu and select Video/Video Recording and capture the video.

That got it working perfectly for me! Let me know if it works for you!

Hi Steve,

Thank you for your reply - ref. PotPlayer I never did not get it to work even with your instructions.
I managed to get sound but not video for some unknown reason, so I gave up.

However, after watching your tutorial of CyberLink I signed up for a year's subscription - CyberLink is on special for $ 54.99 until January 28, a saving of $ 20,00.
Can't really go wrong, I would think.....

It was a breeze to connect and being able to capture my old tapes as everything worked first time.
I can highly recommend CyberLink for capture.

Not sure how it will fare for editing as I am using Premiere Elements 2024.
But time will tell.

I noticed that the supplied Profiles are saving in MPEG-2 as well as AVI.
Do you know if there is a place where I can download additional profiles so as to save in MP4 ?

Thanks again for your help and support

Glad you were able to capture with PowerDirector.

I'm not aware additional profiles for saving video, but I'll continue to investigate.

Take care.

Thanks for your reply, Steve,

On looking further into the difference between MPEG-2 and MPEG-4, I found - to my surprise - that MPEG-2 should actually produce better quality.

How much this will be noticeable with old VHS video's are of course debatable.

Thanks again.
