Transparent background

Postby janetr » Sun May 07, 2023 3:20 am

hello
I've just updated from Premeiere Elements 2019 to 2023.
In 2019 if I imported a video clip with a solid vabackground, it asjked if I wnated to make this transparent.
I used this a lot, as I often want to import graphics created in Canva.
Now in 2023 I don't get asked this by the sytsem, and I can't see how to make the background transparent.
I've got Steve's book, but there aren't any entries for "background" or "transparent".

This is really frustrating. I'm considering going back to 2019 because of this, unless I can find a workround.

Right-click on the clip on your timeline and select the option to Apply Videomerge.

The process is the same in both versions of the program, but in the latest version it may not be set to automatically detect the smooth-colored background.

Thanks for supporting the book! You can find out more about Videomerge on page 168.

you are brilliant - thanks so much. I'll make a note of that for future use.

BTW I thought I saw sowmwhere in your book that you had a "see page 00." I've just looked again and can't find it, but maybe you could do a serach for it on your manuscript, just in case it is there.
I self-publish too and had done exactly that with some refereces to other chapters. Someone gave it a one star on Amazon where it was doing well, and said both the author and the ditor should be sacked. It had a really bad effect on my sales for a while! I may have imagined it, but just in case ...

Thank you for the heads-up, Janet. I have found it and changed it.

Take care.
