How to show HD video on intracompany network

Postby Ron Hunter » Tue Apr 05, 2011 1:50 pm

Hello all! I have been tasked with filming a training presentation for my employer. I plan to film the session with a HDV miniDV camcorder (HV40), edit the footage in PRE9, then save the edited output file on my company's internal network.

I am curious what export file type I should use for this project. I'm trying to achieve a reasonable balance of video quality, file size (so our IT guy doesn't panic), and streaming capability (so performance is good while watching over the network).

Can anyone suggest a good PRE9 output file type that will meet these objectives?

Thanks a bunch! :tx:

You should be fine with a HD WMV file Ron :)
Still, no matter what format you use if the video is long and there will be lots of people watching it over the network it can cause problems.
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.

I use the Vimeo HD settings to show on our company network and it works great.

http://www.vimeo.com/help/compression

H.264 MPEG4 in 720P deinterlaced.

Sidd, what PRE share option to you use as the basis for this preset? QuickTime? MPEG? I presume you go into "Advanced", make the tweaks then save the preset?

You can wait for confirmation on this, but you can get the exact settings in pre9 via Share > Mobile Phones and Players > Apple Ipod Iphone.

From there you have to click the advanced button and set it up yourself.

Before you start trying to make adjustments, on the Multiplexor tab, change to MP4/Standard.

Second, on the Video tab change the Profile/Level to Main 4.1,

Then follow the Vimeo recommendations such as,

Frame size to 1280x720.

Progressive

CBR bitrate to 5 Mbps (5000 kbps).

Change the audio from 48k to 44.1k.

etc.

Hope that helps.

Thanks guys, I never would have figured that out on my own. The finished product looks quite nice and I'll use that preset on future projects too.
