High Def flash memory problems

Postby momoffduty » Mon Jul 13, 2009 4:01 pm

Trying to help my neighbor out. He wants to burn to a standard dvd from high def video from a flash memory card for his church. Doesn't know what brand of camcorder. The software that came with the program is Arc Soft Total Media Studio. It recognizes the file, a mov file 3G, but during get media it runs and runs and doesn't import into the program.

He only wants to add a title and credits to the edit and has used WMM. What is the best option? WMM does not recognize the mov file. Does the file need to be converted to an AVI first?

Thanks.

It should be obvious that there are several steps to solve this. First problem is to discover why the supplied program won't deal with the camera capture. Perhaps the first thing to try is reinstalling that application.

The mov file is on his hard drive. It won't load onto the editing program.

I agree with Ken - if the supplied program can't read it, you probably couldn't convert it either. Sounds like perhaps a file or flash card problem. Can you get the card or the camcorder, and can you try to read it with, for example, PRE?

He can play the file on his computer. He doesn't have the card. That was my first Q to him, to bring the card to me and see if I can import. Hard to help when starting from the middle of something. Thanks.

Thanks.

The extra information really helps. Since the target format is SD DVD then conversion to a SD DV AVI file is the next step. Perhaps the current Pro version of Quicktime would do the conversion.

Looks like it might be a very nice tool Cheryl :)
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

I guess he will just have to try it.

1. Does it accept Hi-Def mov files?
2. Does it have a preset to save as a DV-AVI?

The procedure at that link doesn't give the answer to these questions but does say there are a number of options. Price is right - good luck.

Another option would be Quicktime Pro, $30

Thanks for the other suggestions. I'll suggest Quicktime Pro next to him.
