Working with AVCHD in PE4

Postby sbfowler » Thu Mar 20, 2008 1:37 pm

I have been using a SD mini-dv camcorder and PE4 to capture and create videos. However, I would like to upgrade to HD but not sure about the best way. Recently, I came across a small program, VoltaicHD which convert mts files into avi or wmv format which can then be opened and edited by PE4. I have tried the demo program and it works well for me. It is available at http://shedworx.com/.

Does anyone know of any other options outside of a different editing program (e.g., ulead, pinnacle, etc) to edit mts files?

(maybe the next version of PE will have support for AVCHD?)

Your problem is getting them into a format that PE4 can handle. If you have NERO you could import the AVCHD files and export them as HDV MPEG2. PE4 will edit these. Otherwise the converter looks good. However if you convert to AVI the files will be large.
If your final viewing format is standard definition you could just downconvert in the cam as standard MPEG2 and edit this in PE4.
