Motion Elements

Postby john a » Tue Mar 27, 2018 5:51 pm

I need a flying or soaring Pterodactyl silhouette, way in the background
of a 30 sec pan of the Badlands.
I did some Web searching but now need your advise.
How do I get a Custom made Motion Element.

Hi John,

Do you have an image you can play around with in Photoshop?
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.

Hi Guys

Yes, I've got a fine Pterodactyl tiff to experiment with.

You can add the tiff to the timeline of any project, or in a project of its own. Stretch out the tiff on the timeline to the required length (30 sec) and then use scale and position changes to create motion graphic, make sure the background is transparent and you should be good.

Hi Guys
The Photo Shop tutorial was completely understandable but my copy won't do that.
I'm getting pretty good at manipulating tiffs in Pre 15 but don't know how to give a silhouette a
transparent back ground in Photo Shop and a little wing flap animation would be really good.
So I figured there must be someone out there who makes a living creating these kinds of file.
I suppose it sound like a cop out but I'd like to get this element done.

You might see more interest if we know a little bit more about what's needed. Like, what is the project frame size and frame rate? What size is needed for the Pterodactyl? How many seconds of animation are needed? What does the Pterodactyl image look like and how large is the tiff in pixels.

Good idea, Chuck!

You inspired me to look to see if there were any 3D models available and there are some. This free one from AGMLABS looks promising. It's in Blender, rigged for animation, and even has an existing animation. Of course, that can be changed. If the background is removed, it should be exportable with alpha channel to overlay in Pre. I simply don't have time to do anything with it myself, but we do have other members that have used Blender. Maybe one of them may be able to help?

Hi Guys

This is exiting stuff for a Newbe.

Found exactly what I wanted at Story Blocks,
(I already subscribe to Audio Blocks, just didn't search deep enough I guess.)

I'm reducing the image size so the pterodactyl is way off in the distance.
Both HD and SD files drag along their Black Bars.
I naively thought that the Green Screen covered everything.
What sort of sorcery might eliminate this problem.

The Track One Clip is
Type AVI
Frame Rate 29.97
Pixel AR .9091
Frame S 720 x 480
Depth 24 Bit
AVI File Int 1:13.95

Thanks again

The video on track 1 is SD 4:3 aspect ratio, am I correct that the pterodactyl animation on track 2 is HD 16:9 aspect ratio. What are the project settings? Is it SD full frame (4:3) or SD widescreen (16:3)? Or, something else?

Something funny is going on. The Story Blocks green screen animations shouldn't have bars. If the track 2 animation does have embedded bars, you should be able to use the crop effect to trim them off. Apply the crop effect to the track 2 animation clip last -- after the keying effect -- and adjust the crop borders. It sounds like you also got bars on the track 1 video. Is that correct? That shouldn't happen unless the video doesn't match the project frame or it is scaled down. Keep in mind that transparency that doesn't have any video underneath to show will display as black.

Try the crop effect on the track 2 video and if that doesn't take care of the issues let us know and give us all the pertinent information: project settings, video clip properties, etc.. A screen capture would also help.

Hi Guys

After I posted that last," Why the Bars ? " question and knowing
just enough to be dangerous, I figured the clip needs to be bigger
before you make it smaller. If that makes any sense ?
So I zoomed in with Pan & Zoom then, did the resize trick on the monitor,
slowed it down a lot, gave it a really long dissolve in and out and presto,
a 10 year old boys day dream of Pterodactyls still flying in the Bad Lands.
I'm not sure exactly what I did but this Newbe is happy as hell
And thanks everyone for your thoughts on this.
This really helps my little production.
