Best Desktop

Postby aldap53 » Tue May 30, 2017 9:59 am

All:

I am getting ready to purchase a new desktop. I was hoping someone would make some recommendations as to brand and all the necessary internal components to have in order to maximize the best results when using
PS15 and Prem15? I have been told to purchase a gaming computer but there are so many variations, I am not really what to purchase? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I purchased this last year, anything close to this will work fine. I did a lot of research and waited for a good price, watched eBay and Amazon. I love this computer, there isn't anything I haven't been able to do and it is very fast. I did replace/upgrade the video card and the RAM. Total price for the PC was $529, added a MSI GAMING GTX 960 4GB OC Twin Frozr-V HDCP Ready SLI Support (GTX 960 GAMING 4G) video card for $250 and maxed out the RAM for another $100. Total upgraded price for the PC was $880 for a PC that is worth well over $1000 easy :)

As a more general recommendation, use this chart for your potential computer's benchmark score. A score of 6000 or better will run the programs very well. Over 10000 is awesome for 4k. (Chuck's recommendation has a CPU that rates a 6300 -- though it's got a heavy duty graphics card, since it's a gaming computer, and a solid state drive, which can also give you an edge, though it's not necessary for most video editing.)

Then just get a good load of 8 gigs of RAM or more. Don't sweat the graphics card. The Elements programs don't use GPU for the most part, so spend your money on CPU power.

I don't know that brands mean much anymore. Dells used to be the go-to for PCs. HPs are always reliable. (I always buy HP refurbs.) You really can't go wrong.
