Audio and video don't match

Postby sadddletree » Sat Jan 28, 2017 11:13 pm

Got a disc burned and took it over to a friend with a big screen TV to check it out. The audio and video didn't match. I was sick. It has matched on every other test disc we have burned and matches in the program. Brought it back home and put it in our small, old, DVD playing TV. Audio and video definitely match.

So... any ideas on what is going on? We can't get a pile of discs made and have audio and video not match on different systems. I know it is right in the program.

The most common cause from this is using non-camcorder source video that uses variable rather than a constant frame rate.

Is your original video from an AVCHD camcorder?

There is no reason this should be happening, saddletree.

If you use Export & Share/Device/Computer/SD 480 and output a 720x480 MPEG-PS and you play that file on VLC Media Player, is the video out of sync?

I've been using the SD576 setting when I have been burning the ISO files. Is this wrong and will it cause the problem?

I will try what you say and see what happens. I'll check back a few hours from now...

Made the MPEG-PS file as you said and it plays perfectly.

Someone has said I need an adobe codec installed. No idea what this means. Does this make sense to anyone?

The fact that you could produce an MPEG without the audio lag means that there's nothing wrong with the way the program is processing your video project.

Meantime, I just re-read your first post. You're saying that the audio lag is on the DVD when your friend plays it on his player but it is NOT present when you play the same disc on yours?

If that's the case, the issue is with his system, not your disc. You don't say whether it's the audio or the video that is lagging on his TV, but clearly something in his system is contributing to the lag.

Yes, the same disc plays properly in our system, and not theirs. I don't remember which lagged - they were just off each other. I will try to visit more very accommodating friends with the same disc and see if it works in theirs though.

Looking at the specs of the camera, etc. is it better to burn this at 480 or 576? Still figuring this part out. Thanks.

720x480 is the NTSC (North American and Japan) TV standard. 720x576 is the PAL TV standard.

As I said, the program, the disc and any settings you used to create it have nothing to do with what you saw at your friend's house.

Thanks. I am figuring that out now. It takes a while...

I'll start a new topic for the PAL question I have.

Tried again with another disc and it did the same thing on that system. Video lagged behind audio. But turns out it is an X Box system they are using to play DVDs. They don't normally have this issue but maybe that is the problem, especially with a home burned DVD? It seems to work well in other system.

Some players do not play burned DVDs very well at all, I've run across a few that just have issues for some reason. The quality of the DVD brand will also make a difference, what brand of discs are you using?

That is generally a good brand. You might want to send out a few test DVDs to some friends just to see how many have problems.

I'm trying them with a few friends, yes. We will be getting the discs for sale professionally burned. I'm just trying to figure out if I have the formatting correct before I send it out to them. I'm thinking I do now.
