ADS Pyro 550 vs 557 ?

Postby tjodork » Tue Oct 20, 2009 4:54 pm

For an XP system that wants to capture video from a an hi-8mm camcorder via firewire ....does it matter which of these 2 models is purchased ?
Does one work better? Does the 557 has needed features that the 550 does not have ?
Thanks for any help !!!

I think the only difference is the software that comes with it and maybe the firmware.
The 557 version is probably more up to date, some of them come with Premiere Elements 4.
There is also a 558 version that has no software and is a little cheaper.

If you find a good deal at one of our affiliate merchants please be sure to use one of the Muvipix links.
Here are the available models and prices at Amazon.com

If you can afford a few extra $$ then a Canopus converter would be recommended, less chance of problems ;)

Hi Tim,
I think Paul is kind of the Canopus expert :)
The 55 doesn't have as many features as the 110 or the 300.
One of the great things about the Canopus converters is the built in TBC (time based correction).
I don't think that the 55 has the built in TBC but is still probably an excellent unit.

Someone with a Canopus converter can comment on the differences and how good they are.
