DVMP Pro 2 - A very Cool Tool!

From a thread at http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/s ... stcount=21
Another program which you may find useful is DVMP which plays the AVI file and simultaneously displays not just the date and time but also lots of other info which the camera stores during recording, e.g.:

* timecode
* date and time that recording was made
* aperture (f-stop)
* shutter speed
* gain (dB)
* image stabiliser ON or OFF
* White balance settings
* etc

You can frame step forward or backward or jump to previous/next scene, and the info is displayed with frame accuracy.

There's a Basic version which is free for non-commercial use, and a Pro version which has lots of extra tools, like being able to burn in any of the info into the video frames, edit the info, convert file type etc.

Tools
* Splitter tool aids in offline editing and accurate batch capture of HDV and HDCAM, and trimming of HDV and HDCAM Premiere projects. more....
* Get around timecode jumps in Premiere-captured AVIs.
* Split DV AVI files using a wide range of criteria: jumps in the date/time of recording, timecode discontinuities, changes in User Bits, and Tape Index markers. Also produces a Premiere batch list file for later batch capture.
* Burn-in timecode, date and time of recording, aperture, shutter speed, white balance settings and other DV metadata. Choose any combination for burning into the visible area of the video.
* Modify DV metadata, including embedded timecode, date/time of recording and wide screen flag. Also convert from drop-frame timecode to non-drop or vice versa.
* Convert file type between AVI Type 1, Type 2, or Raw DV.
* Batch Processor performs most operations on multiple input files.
* Direct file processing option for Burn-In and Modify Metadata operations. This makes changes directly to the input file without producing a separate output file - handy if you're short on disk space.
* Export DV metadata to a textual CSV file which can be imported into Excel or other spreadsheet or database applications

Player
* Timecode and date/time of recording are displayed with frame accuracy as you play or frame-step.
* Also displays aperture, shutter speed, white balance and other camera settings that were recorded when the footage was being shot.
* Play standard DV AVI files, plus Canopus DV files, Raw DV files (.dv), DVCPRO25 and DVCAM files.
* Jump instantly between scenes. A wide range of scene criteria can be set including date and time or timecode discontinuities, or changes of selected DV metadata items.
* Drag-and-drop files onto DVMP Pro

DVMP Pro does not install any codecs or DLLs on your system and does not change any of your system settings - it couldn't be simpler or safer!
Download our demo version - this has almost all of the functionality of the full version, but all output files are watermarked.

Besides the Pro version, there is a basic player that is free for personal use.

http://www.dvmp.co.uk/dv-media-player.htm

When you click on one of the scan buttons, the player will read through the entire DV-AVI file and then mark the spots where there is a scene change. You can then skip forward and backward to scenes very quickly. This is very handy if you don't want to physically split a file in order to find out where the scene changes are located.

I went to purchase the pro version but the pro version is approximately $40 US.
