No Stereo Mix option when recording in Audacity

Postby Chuck Engels » Wed Dec 19, 2007 6:26 pm

I have had this problem on a number of machines, most recently my new laptop.
After downloading the newest SigmaTel audio drivers, released on 12/4/2007, I now have the Stereo Mix option :)

Is that file JUST for laptops, Chuck? Everywhere I've found a solution, it suggests it's only for laptops. Mine is a Dell Desktop XPS 410. And is it a NEW driver? When I chatted with Dell several months back, they suggested I PURCHASE some software that would do the job.

After re-reading your post, I see it WAS just released (duh!) But I thought the Dell site was a little vague as to what machines it applies to, although it looks as though it applies to XP (in my case) in general machines. Have you tried it on a desktop?

It is a new driver, released earlier this month. I don't have a desktop with Sigma Tel audio so I can't try it.
If you install it and it doesn't work you can back out the driver in Device Manager and revert back to the old one.

After looking at the details for both the 'Applies To' is identical, I would bet that it would work for the latitude laptop or the XPS desktop.

I'm being overcautious because there was another laptop fix back a year or so ago .. but all the forums I checked said it created problems for the XPS 410. After I downloaded it and started to install, it listed the applicable model numbers .. some XPS models were listed .. but NOT the 410.I've emailed Dell to see if they will specifically verify that it applies to this model.

Boy, would I looove to resolve this issue!!

It wouldn't load on my machine, Chuck. Darn! I emailed Dell and they gave me a different driver that looks like it isn't even for Sigmatel. Got someone at Dell to help me over the phone, loaded the latest Sigmatel driver for my machine .. that didn't work either :(

The guy that helped me on the phone had (the typical) VERY strong Indian accent I could barely understand .. but said he was in Canada. Interesting.

If they came out with a driver for the laptop just this month I would think they would be coming out with one for the desktops also real soon [-o<
