Examining file properties

Postby GerryB » Fri Dec 16, 2016 4:43 am

Good day to you all,

Happy Christmas or Festive Season to you all.

Is there any piece of software (free/shareware) that I can use to examine a video file. When I use File >> Properties in Windows I can see the basic details of the construction of the video. Similarly Get Info on a MAC provided much the same.

When I look at the Properties in PrPro CS6 I don't see much more detail.

The reason I ask is I have been sent a number of files recently that could not be played but from lessons learnt here I was able to convert the files and export.

I would like to see if it is possible to work out which coding software was used to mangle the videos and, of course, any other useful information that may be contained in the damage files.

The free MediaInfo utility should do the job.

+1 for Media Info.

It's THE program we recommend when we need someone to tell us about the guts of a file.

Bob, Steve,

MediaInfo certainly did the job.

With so much information displayed I will have to spend some more time learning!!

Best wishes,
