Pyro AV Link & Windows 7

Postby momoffduty » Thu Aug 27, 2015 10:44 am

In PrPro capture screen on the right side the Pyro is detected and "device online". However, above the capture window "Device offline". I did a google search and read that others were having problems connecting with Win7. There are several sites that have free downloads for a driver to work with Win7.

Does the Pyro work in Win7?
If a new driver is needed then which site is safe for the download?

I'm still using the Pyro with Windows XP, do not have Firewire on any of the Win 7 or 8 machines so I can't even test this for you Cheryl, sorry :(

Windows 7 did have a FireWire issue. The solution was to go to the Device Manager and change IEEE-1394 driver to Legacy.

I don't think there is an issue with Windows 8 or 10, for what it's worth.

I have 2 firewires, a long cord and a short one. I've used the short one to capture from the HV30. For the Pyro I used the longer wire. I'll try the other firewire and the legacy selection.

It is kind of irritating that fire wire has been dropped from so many new computers. I always thought for video it was a much more stable way to move and play files. I have been slowly trying to upgrade to USB 3 but it will take a while.

I am about to upgrade my monster desktop and hope that I don't run into any problems with Firewire and my Pyro. Going to go from XP to Windows 8.1 and add 16GB of RAM. When I purchased this computer from Dell it was almost $5000, it is now worth less than $500. It is still a great computer with two Dual Core Zeon processors and room for 32 GB of RAM and lots of slots to add stuff. Problem is that some of the technology is getting old so upgrading some things, like the video card, might not be very easy anymore. RAM for this thing is also crazy expensive but it is a high end workstation. Hopefully all goes well, starting the process later this week :TU:

I haven't had a chance to try the other firewire. I'll post my results.

Sidd, I love the USB3 speed. I have 2 USB3 ports on my monitor, but need to connect with the 3rd USB3 to the USB3 port first. But, with only USB3 port on the computer I got an extender to reach from the back to the front and then use a Transcend to download photos and video. When I had this built 2 years ago I didn't think about USB3 ports, but I did remember to get 2 firewire ports. I also have a port in back to hook up component cables. At one time I wanted to hook up a TV. Things change so fast!

Chuck, congrats on your new computer! Have fun getting things up and running which no doubt you can do in a snap. :-D

I can think of several reasons of my own, but I'm curious what prompted the decision to go with Win 8 instead of Win 10?

It comes with a free upgrade to Windows 10 and I will probably do the upgrade soon, it was cheaper than buying Windows 10 too :)
