Sound Out of sync

Postby mikecox » Wed Jan 24, 2018 3:36 pm

I notice that the sound in a video I'd saved recently was out of sync. The performer started his bow before the piece he had been playing stopped.

I thought it was the camera, and went looking for a setting but I checked the original MOV file and it was in perfect sync. Which leaves me to think it had something to do with PrE or my computer?

Any thoughts?

What model of camcorder is your video coming from?

A lot of the newer iPhones are shooting video with a variable frame rate, for some reason. And if that's the case, there's a simple solution.

Thanks for the quick response and the tutorial Steve.

I'm using a Canon 70D that creates MOV formatted videos.

The sync was only off by just a couple seconds. I'd never really noticed it before, not sure why.

Does this mean that I will need to run all my MOV videos in Handbreak from now on?

fyi I am back to doing videos for my client, mostly for a posting on Facebook (see the offending video here https://www.facebook.com/pg/SpreckelsOrgan/posts/?ref=page_internal.

With that in mind, I have renewed my subscription because, as a result, I expect to be posting a lot more questions :conf:

I suppose I should upgrade to v 16, and order the guide for it. I hate to think of having to start highlighting all over again from scratch!

What would you say are the most significant changes in v16? Or should I just bite the bullet and go Pro, for $20/mo? Would that address the sync issue, or would I still have to use Handbrake?

Open one of the challenging videos in the free download MediaInfo. In MediaInfo, set View to Text and copy and paste the report it generates to this forum.

If variable frame rate is the issue, there may be a setting in your computer that will record the video under constant frame rate.

Sadly I deleted that project after I published it. But I may have a backup copy of it, I'll look. In the meantime, I decided to try a trial version of PrPro.

I installed it, ran the intro tutorials then tried to open a new project from the File tab, but nothing happened. I waited for 5 minutes and still nothing. I clicked the file tab again and got the hourglass. I waited for several minuted and finally got "Not responding" so I shut it down and tried again.

After rebooting my computer I clicked the PrPro icon and got the tutorials, which I skipped this time. A window opened with an option to Sync; with my name in the option. Since I'd synced the last time so I clicked the New Project option. I waited as above but nothing happened so I clicked the File tab and got the hourglass again, which remained on the screen for several minutes, until "Not responding" appeared.

Any idea why the program won't open a new project?\

Here is my computer data.

Meanwhile, I am going to get GeekSquad to run a "tune-up" on my machine to see if there is a problem there.

Sorry, but not totally.

In the last half of my post, I talked about doing more video work and asked about upgrading to v16 or going Pro. I deleted the Prel file with the sync issue, after exporting it, and since I'm not sure I still have a backup I decided to post this question about the problems I'm having with the trial v of PrPro. In the meantime, I'm looking for the prel file on that out of sync video, but I'm still not sure I still have it.

Because I mentioned upgrading in the end of my last post, after explaining that I wasn't sure I still had a copy of the prel file, I decided, after thinking about starting a new thread, not to.

I can't help you with Pro, Mike. Maybe it would be best if you posted your question in our Premiere Pro forum.

That computer really isn't powerful enough for Premiere Pro, but if the video card is acceptable , it should open.
You may need to disable the built in graphics.
What graphics card do you have?

Seriously? I paid almost $3k for this machine. It's a "high-end computer" My 20-year-old Dell, that came with win7 and that over the years I've upgraded to win10, runs Pro! Last night GeekSqaud ran their Dx and told me the Surface Book was a "gaming machine". I don't get it. Maybe I need to revert it and start over.

TO answer your question I have 130GB of free space on my SSD

Listed under "Display adapters: Intel HD Graphics 520 and NVIDIA GeForce GPU

Should I disable one of these.

There is also "Sound, video and game controllers" with titles like AVStream Camera 2500, Display Audio, NVIDIA Vertual Audio Device, Realtec High Feg Audo and Surface Dock.

I'd already looked in Specifications but there is no Card info listed on that page. I search "Card" but got only "sound card settings"

I searched around and found this, by running DXDIAG. I got these 2 pages https://app.box.com/s/z5z0rcp4xgd4vwfe1wgn

It appears that you only have integrated graphics, not a dedicated graphics card.
I don't think that should prevent you from running Premiere Pro, but it will certainly not run well if it does run.
