changing the color of a moving object

changing the color of a moving object

Postby obbrock » Fri Dec 16, 2016 7:30 pm

I have a blue object moving across the screen. I want to change its color to orange, without affecting the color of other objects. I'd like to maintain as much of the detail in the object's shape as possible. At times the object is obscured by other objects. Can you please point me in the right direction? Thanks

Depends on what the object is and how it is composited.

If it's, say, a car driving across your video frame and you want to change the color of the car from red to blue -- that may be a bit tough. Quite possibly beyond the range of doing in Premiere Elements.

But if the object is, say, a shape you created in Photoshop Elements -- still not easy but more likely possible.

Is there anything else in the shot that is the same color? If you could use some kind of Color Replace effect that would replace one color with another but it would replace everything that is that color with another color. Also, it's hard to replace a color unless there are no shadows and the color is even across the entire image. Like Steve said, it will really depend a lot on what the object is.

I was searching to see what I could find on the internet regarding this effect and one of the top results in my search was an ancient book by two guys some of you may know, "Premiere Elements 2 In A Snap" has a nice How To Use the Replace Color Effect in section 83. Isn't that something ::wav::

Thanks very much Steve and Chuck. You've saved me a lot of frustration and time. I decided that blue is not such a bad color after all! OBB
