Specific to Premiere Elements version 14
by John Walker » Thu Mar 10, 2016 2:11 pm
Thanks to help on this forum and Steve Grisetti's excellent Guide to Adobe Premiere Elements 14 I am really getting to grips with the program.
I now have a spare monitor and like the idea of using a two monitor set up to free up space on the work screen. My PC graphics card supports two monitors.
However, so far, I can't find any info on this so any advice would be most appreciated. (Apologies if it's covered in your book Steve but I couldn't find anything)

This is for Windows 7 but pretty much the same for Windows 8 and 10 also. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976064

What part is stumping you?
Setting it up in Windows is pretty easy, assuming you've got a graphics card that supports it (and most do).

Thanks
I've now got two monitors working fine under windows. I was hoping I could adjust the work space to have just the video playback on say the right hand screen and the timeline and other options all on the left screen.
All I have managed so far it to move the timeline onto it's own screen
Am I correct in thinking that I can't choose my own workspace layout? Would be interested to know how others work with dual screens in Pre14 ie. what layout and what is on each screen.
I also notice that I have to drag the timeline across to the other screen each time I open the program.
Cheers John

That's correct, John. Since version 11, selecting the Dual Monitor option just breaks the Timeline off into a floating panel. Everything else remains attached to the main menu.

Thanks for the confirmation Steve.
Not was I was hoping for but at least I won't waste any more time trying to achieve the impossible.

Sometimes just knowing the limits is knowledge enough, eh?

I think Adobe changed this in Elements to help make a distinct difference between Elements and Pro. In Premiere Pro all of the windows can be floating and separated onto multiple monitors In Premiere Elements there can be a few floating windows, not just the Timeline. The Clip Monitor, History Panel, Info, Events, Audio Mixer, Narration, and a couple others can also be free floating windows.

Thanks Chuck,
I can't find any way of moving any panel other than the timeline in v14 as Steve says. Perhaps I am missing something.
Would be brilliant if you know a way to do it. Just moving the timeline is a bit of a waste of the dual monitor set up for me.

If you open any of the other windows that I've listed above they can be freely moved in version 14. Example: Double click on a clip in the project assets to open the clip monitor, it can be moved anywhere, including a second monitor. Others are tools under the tools menu, they can also be moved anywhere and are free floating windows. Having the timeline in a monitor all by itself is really a huge deal when you are doing a lot of editing with more than just 1 or 2 tracks.

Thank you Chuck - very useful information I have to move and resize the timeline over to the second monitor each time I re-open the program. It doesn't appear to remember the setting unless I'm missing something. Other wise all working fine John
