Generic Error

Specific to Premiere Elements version 14

It looks like the problem is only with the first file VTS_01_1.VOB? Can you import and view the other files in Premiere Elements ok?

Hi,
Thanks for the reply,
Not any longer. Now when I click on Get Media I get the Import error warning with the message that the file already exists at C:\users\Owner\Videos\ (Same as my image Vob-2.jpg in a previous message). But, when I go into my HD File Manager to that location nothing is there under the Videos Title so I don't know what the program is trying to tell me or where anything is now located. What a mess. All I wanted to do was remove some unwanted material, that I have done many times before with other videos, and nothing will work for me with this one. Something evidently got messed up in my original recording (at least the first 7 minutes - VTS_01_1VOB) and there doesn't appear to be anyway I can edit this video.

There are DVD Ripping programs that can maybe do the job and convert it to another format. There is also hardware that can be used to import the video, from companies like Canopus and ADS (Pyro Link).

Use Windows Explorer to go to the folder to view the file, not your HD File Manager (they are not HD files).

You should be able to import into Premiere Elements all of the files from the DVD using "Add Media", "From Files and Folders", then browse to the Users/Owner/Video folder. If they have already been imported then they should still be there.

Hi,
Thank you for the speedy reply.
Now I am confusing you, Sorry. When I said HD File manager I meant Hard Drive not High Definition. As you can tell I am not that computer literate. I go to my 'C' Drive and down to Users, Owner, Video but there is nothing there relating to my current video. I have other videos there but nothing on the one I am working on. Nothing has been Imported, at least where I can find them.

I have concluded that there must be something wrong with my copy of Premiere Elements. In the Video Importer I changed the Save In: location several times but the program always indicates that the files are in the new location - but nothing shows up and nothing opens up in the Premiere program or is available in the Project Assets tab. I tried 3 different locations as a test but no files are imported. Respectfully, Photochief

No problem, thanks for the explanation :)

If you haven't done much with the program so far it may be worth uninstalling the applications and doing a complete install over again. What version of Windows are you on?

Hi Chuck,
I am on a Dell XPS 8500 with Windows 10 Pro. I have both PRE 13 & 14 installed. I just re-installed PRE 14 but did not remove the copy already on the computer first. I am going to see what results I receive with PRE 13 and if it will solve the problem with the Video Importer. Thanks for the assistance. Respectfully, Photochief

Hi to all,
Thanks to all that responded. I finally got the results I wanted but had to take a circuitous route. Since VTS_01_1.vob was corrupted in some way and would not open in PRE14 I had a friend use his ripping program to make a new copy. I think it was in .mp4. This new copy would open up in PRE14 but for some unknown reason I could not save it anywhere I could later locate. (See previous messages) I also have PRE13 on the computer and found that it would open in this program which I did and saved in the .prel file format. I then opened up this file in PRE14 and had no problem editing the video, making an .iso copy and putting it on a new DVD.
As a newbie to Premiere Elements none of this makes sense to me especially the program telling me that the imported files could be located in the C:Users/Owner/Video folder but nothing was there, but since I got the end results I was looking for, I am satisfied.
Thanks again to all that took the time to try and solve my problem, you guys are great! Respectfully, Photochief

Hi Chief,

The .prel format is a Premiere Elements project file, not a video or anything else, just a project file. Not sure how you were trying to locate your videos, this may have been your problem all along. Not sure exactly what happened, and without seeing what you were doing with my own eyes it may not be possible to tell or give good answers. Anyway, glad you accomplished what you needed :TU:
