32 bit project over to a 64 bit environment

Postby Red Sanders » Mon Dec 07, 2015 1:58 pm

Pardon me if I'm repeating a question that has been answered in the past. I'm posting this only after searches yielded no listing of threads that appeared to address this question.

I'm still in the process of building a new computer - Christmas purchases for family is delaying my progress in purchasing all the needed parts. :c2: I have Steve's new book in hand - Guide to Photoshop Elements & Premiere Elements 14. I've purchased and downloaded Premiere Elements 14 (both 32 and 64 bit versions), and the same for Photoshop Elements 14. My current rig is running the 32 bit version of Windows 10. My new rig will be running the 64 bit version of Windows 10. I'm anxious to get started learning both programs by creating some new projects. Will I run into problems if I transfer a project I've started on my old 32 bit rig to my new 64 bit rig?

That's an interesting question. :conf:
I suppose that the worst case scenario is that you install the 32 bit version on the new computer to finish the projects if the 64 bit version doesn't allow you to open and use the old projects. Use a copy of the project file, of course, and make sure to have backups.

You shouldn't. If you have installed any 3rd party plug-ins, you will need to make sure that they match the program -- if the program is 64-bit, the plug-ins must be 64-bit too. But. the project file and source files will be the same whether it is a 32-bit or 64-bit system. Just be sure that the source media locations have the same file path in both systems so they can be found by the program.

Thanks for quick replies! Always have to say, forums here are of so much help. I'll follow the advice given and post back here my results, once my new rig is ready to go. ::C
