Saving Audio from a Clip

Is it possible in PRE 14 to save the audio portion of a timeline clip for use in another part of the project and also for future use?

I've tried Copy Paste etc but can't work out how to specify where it pastes to.

If it is possible can someone please talk me through the process.

On my previous program I could save an audio copy within the program and it would appear immediately as a clip - (same with video clips).

Still 'unlearning'

Unless Adobe removed this feature in Premiere Elements 14, you can do something similar there too. For a given video clip, the audio and video portions are linked. To copy and paste the audio portion, you need to unlink them. You do this from the clip on the timeline. Select the clip. You can unlink them permanently using the unlink audio and video command from the menu. Or, you can temporarily unlink them by alt+click on the audio portion of the clip. From there, you can copy the audio, move the cursor to where you want to drop it, and paste. It will probably only paste to audio track 1. Another way is to alt+double click on the audio portion of the clip in the timeline to bring up the audio in the preview window. Once there, you can drag from the preview window and drop onto any audio track. This works great in version 7 which I last used. Hopefully, it still works in version 14.

That will be useful.

What I was hoping for was to be able to save an audio clip straight into the Scene Bin/Project Assets for future us within the same project. Using Steve's suggestion I can do that but it's a bit clunky as I have to save it as a file into a folder and then import it into Project Assets. But ..... at least there is a way to do it.

What you want is called a subclip. Subclips appear in the project assets bins just like a regular clip and can be used the same way as a regular clip. That's definitely a capability of Premiere Pro. When you create a subclip in Premiere Pro, you can set the in and out points to define what part of the source clip will be used to create the subclip and you can choose whether the subclip will have both the video and audio, just the video, or just the audio.

I looked at the help file for Premiere Elements 14 and did not see any mention of subclips. I'm assuming the ability to create subclips has been removed or, at best, become undocumented. Older versions, such as the version 7 one I used, could create subclips but only with both video and audio. You could not make a subclip of just the audio like you could in Pro.

You can still create subclips by dragging trimmed video from the Clip Monitor to the Project Assets folder, Bob -- but only when the Project Assets panel is in List View. It won't work in Grid View.
