Specific to Premiere Elements version 13
by Steve Grisetti » Mon Mar 07, 2016 9:55 am
Well, going by the G Spot report, this is 720x480 with a 0.9 pixel aspect ratio.
saddletree, can you DropBox one of your .mod files to me at my first name at muvipix dot com?
I'd like to experiment with it and see what kind of results I get.
JVC Everio .mod files used to be very challenging for earlier versions of Premiere Elements to work with. But that should no longer be the case.

Steve, I have made a short video, same settings to send to you. I have dropbox - haven't really used it. Video is in there. I tried to invite you to view it. Not super familiar with dropbox. If it doesn't work, please let me know. Thanks.

Thanks for sending me the video, saddletree.
The video is indeed a 4:3 MPEG, as you can see from the screen capture below. It doesn't fit perfectly in the video frame, but it's as close as you're going to get with your footage. And your audience shouldn't notice the slight off-set. In fact, it won' t even show on a TV.
To create this project, I selected New Project then, on the New Project screen, I clicked Settings and selected the settings for Hard Dis, Flash Memory Camcorders/Standard 48 khz (as I recommended above) and clicked OK. Back at the New Project panel, I checked the option to force the settings.

Thanks for your help, Steve. I am attaching a couple of screen shots - what it looks like when I do what you have done, and what it really looks like if I just play it on our computer. We are missing 1/4 of the screen, approximately. So obviously the program is not working with our format well. Having everything offset by that much is not acceptable for the quality of video we are wanting to produce.
Is there a way to change formats of the video so this program will use it properly? How do we do that and what format do we change it to? How does this affect quality of video?

Steve, I sent another quick video to drop box which is lighter so we can see it better. Here are three screen shots - the whole video as played on my computer, one set to standard 48 and one set to widescreen 48. The latter two have no difference and both are missing the right quarter of the video.

Steve, what I think is happening is that the video has a sequence extension that is specifying a 540x480 4:3 display window overlaying the 720x480 16:9 source. Depending on whether or not the software viewing the clip processes the sequence header you'll see a truncated 4:3 or a full 16:9 frame.
If those samples are still in the dropbox, I'd like to get them so I can try some things. PM me with the details if that's ok.

To message another member you go to the top, next to "User Control Panel" where it says (0 New Messages). Click on New Messages and that will open your Muvipix messaging inbox. Then click on the "NEWPM*" button, see screen shots below. There is only one member named "Bob". We also have a video tour at the very top center of the forum that explains all of the features and how to get around. Messages.jpg Inbox.jpg

I hope you can figure this out, Bob. Because this video doesn't play by the rules.
It's clearly a 16:9 video, even though it uses a 4:3 pixel aspect ratio. And no amount of interpretation gets this to fit in a 16:9 project.
Unless saddletree is about to use different specs in her camcorder to shoot a more compliant video, I'm going to have to say that this video won't be editable in Premiere Elements.
Unless Bob has an idea.

Sadddletree, what model Everio camcorder are you using? I assume this is a DVD camcorder is that correct?
