Media offline

Postby baleine » Sun Feb 28, 2016 7:35 am

I worked many hours to create a video, I want to work on it again, and when I open the file, the file opens and I get a red picture telling me that the media is offline.
I opened all the saved version, 5 of them (?) and they all show the red message! How do I recover my file? Window 7
Thank you!

There's nothing wrong with your project file. The problem is that the media files linked to it have been moved or disconnected.

This can happen when you link a project to video that's still on your camcorder. It can also happen when you renamed a directory folder or move the media files. It can also happen when the media is on an external drive and that drive is either disconnected or Windows doesn't recognize it as the same drive.

Where is the media that the project can't find?

Hi Steve,
Thank you for answering so promptly! I work on window 7, premiere element 13.
I traced the file all the way to adobe premiere element auto save and I was waiting for you to tell me how I go about it. I do not want to make a mistake.
Thank you, Louise

Hi Steve,

When the program is asking me where is the file I traced it to the location and when I click it, it opens a window telling me that
"this type of file is not supported or the required codec is not installed"
Adobe Premiere Element 13, window 7

thanks

be sure you are locating the exact file the Premiere Elements is looking for. There should be a file name in the header of the window, be sure to locate that file in its new location.

Thank you Chuck Engels, indeed I was able to retrieve the file with the name of the first clip, I was looking for the file with the name of the project instead.
I was so upset that I was not paying attention.
Some of the files did not act like to originals, parts of it were missing!
The most important thing is that I know the files are not lost and I am able to retrieve them
Many thanks
