Premiere Elements Crashes Right Before Completion of Burn

Postby prkraus » Sat Jan 16, 2016 9:39 pm

I am burning my project to a folder as Steve recommends on Lynda.com. At 98% complete at the Compiling Media Stage for burn to folder, or when I try to burn to an ISO file, Premiere Element 13 crashes and I receive the following reasons:

C:\Users\Paul\AppData\Local\Temp\WERF761.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml
C:\Users\Paul\AppData\Local\Temp\WERED8.tmp.appcompat.txt
C:\Users\Paul\AppData\Local\Temp\WER1F7C.tmp.mdmp

My project is somewhat lengthy, about 1 hour 25 minutes.

What is the cause of this and what can I do to prevent it?

Thanks.

First thought is a tiny - even just one frame - gap on the timeline.

The second thing to check is whether or not you have a stop marker at the end of your timeline. You definitely SHOULD NOT.

I did have a stop marker at the end of my timeline. I cleared that. I had some gaps in my soundtrack under some black video so I put in some audio with the volume taken down to 0. I have gaps in my video timeline 2 with the text and titles. Am I correct that the gaps in Video 2 are OK? Is there any way to get the program to identify the gap or the problem?

As long as there are no gaps on your Video 1 track, you should be good to go, prk.

But clearing that Stop Marker from the end could definitely fix your problems!

I cleared the stop marker. I am getting the same result.

The way the project is set up is that there is a long movie in the beginning. There is a stop marker at the end of the long movie.

Then I excerpted 13 scenes from the movie and put them each at the end of the timeline. The excerpts are all separated from each other and from the long movie by 5 seconds of black video. Each excerpt begins with a scene marker and ends with a stop marker, except now the last excerpt, which has no stop marker. This setup enables me to have scene markers that go to the excerpted scenes individually rather than begin a playback of the entire long movie from the beginning point of that scene.

Is there anything about this set up that would cause the program to crash? I am looking at that timeline expanded as far as it can go and I am not seeing any gaps.

I copied the entire project and deleted the extra scenes and the project downloaded successfully.

Thanks.

There are so many possible factors, including the specs of your computer, stability of your operating system, the camcorder your original video is from and how much free, clean, contiguous space is on your hard drive, prk. So it's difficult to give you specifics without actually knowing all of your specifics.

Are you able to output a video using Publish & Share/Computer/MPEG with the DVD widescreen preset?

I eliminated all of the movie markers and reset the movie menu to none and I was able to burn the project. I still would like to use the movie menu though. I like the Birch Standard font and I want to keep the font consistent between the titles and text and the DVD menu and I have not found a DVD authoring tool that has the Birch Standard font.

I copied and pasted between movie markers when I copied the additional scenes at the end.

Does any of that help you pin anything more down? Thanks.

It sure doesn't tell me anything. While it's possible that the movie menu template you've chosen or the font you're using is corrupted, it's impossible to say without more troubleshooting. In other words, adding a different menu template and seeing if you can create a DVD from it, then trying a different font, etc. How deep are you willing to dig for this, pr?

As far as I know no one has reported problems with this particular menu template.

Thanks, Steve. I solved the problem. The movie consists of 14 segments, which segments in turn consist of over 1,100 clips. I saved each of the 14 segments as its own avi. Then I started again from scratch with a completely new file. I added the 14 segments, put black video in between each one, and redid the DVD menu. It burned fine.

Glad you found a solution, prk! I don't think any of us would have come up with this solution -- at least not without having a look at that bodacious timeline!
