How do I create a Preset?

Specific to Premiere Elements version 13

Direct from Adobe, this is supposed to work. Please try this and let me know, I am also going to give it a shot also ...

Steps:
1. Select the clip that uses the effect (or multiple effects) that you want to save as a preset.
2. Click Applied Effects to open the Applied Effects panel.
3. CTRL-click one or more effects, and choose Save Preset.
4. In the Save Preset dialog box, specify a name for your preset.

<< Ensure that the multiple selection happens fine.>>
The created presets should appears under the My Presets category in the Effects panel.

Ok, I have tried this and it works perfectly in version 13. CTRL Click to select effects and then right click and select Save Preset, works great :)

Did you then apply the preset to a new clip and see if all of the effects are applied? When I did it, only one effect actually applied with the preset.

Worked perfectly, applied 4 effects. Even worked in a new project as expected.

The above method of creating a Preset as described in the manual, works only with applied effects, but DOES NOT WORK with applied adjustments (such as Gamma, Color, Lighting, etc.). "Paste Effects and Adjustments" includes both effects and adjustments.

It's supposed to retain all the keyframes (if any) and settings for the selected effects. I just now tested in Premiere Pro CS6 specifically with the effects you mentioned and it works well. All the selected effects, keyframes, and adjustments are retained in the preset and are applied when you apply the preset. I can't test Premiere Elements. Chuck, could you give it a try with Premiere Elements 13?

I tested in PRE and sadly, it does not work for adjustments, only for Effects. I guess that's why Adobe gives us "Paste Effects and Adjustments".

Paste effects and attributes and presets are very similar. They both are used to apply combinations of effects and adjustments to a clip. The difference is that presets are intended as a way to save combinations of effects and adjustments for later reuse. Paste effects and attributes is intended for immediate use in the same editing session and is not saved for reuse. They also differ in that presets can be selective created -- you don't need to include all the effects that happen to be applied to the clip you are using. Paste effects and attributes applies the effects and attributes that have been placed in the application clipboard by using the copy command on a selected clip and includes all the effects and attributes from that clip.

The Paste effects and attributes function is also in Premiere Pro where it is simply called Paste Attributes. Pro also allows you to copy/cut specific effects with their adjustments and also paste them in the Effects control panel. Premiere Elements 7, the last version I had, could also do that. I don't know whether you can still do that in the applied effects panel of Premiere Elements 13.

I will check to see if there is any way to save Adjustments for later use :)

I figured a way to get around it by saving a project (called Template) with only clip(s) that have several adjustments / effects each. I will refer to each of these clips as "Preset".
To create a new project, I copy the template and rename it to the a new project name. I open the new project, now containing the "Presets" and then import media for the new project (I keep the "Presets" at the end of the timeline). The timeline now contains the new media and the "Presets". To give the new media the same properties as a "Preset, I use Copy on a "Preset" clip and "Paste Effects and Adjustments" on the new media. The new media inherits ALL the effects and adjustments from the "Preset".. When the project is all finished, I delete the "Presets". It works, but I wish there was an easier way.

Hi Yosale, Yes, the template idea will work fine and it was great that you thought of that. I have confirmed with Adobe that the adjustments cannot be saved, I am going to create a request that this feature be added in a future version of Premiere Elements. Glad you have a workaround :TU:

Hi Chuck,

I think that would be great if Adobe o implemented it.
While you are at it, could you ask them to implement "Sequences" (multiple timelines) as well? :) I really miss this feature from the Pro version.

Yeah, while you're at it just ask them to implement all the features of the Pro version into Premiere Elements. That would be nice!
