PRE 13 Movie Slideshow

Postby Indydan » Sat Mar 28, 2015 12:56 pm

I have prepared a spreadsheet showing the membership of my HS class from 7th grade through graduation. It’s about 175 (±) lines long and in full size hard copy maybe 11 inches wide. Is there a way to incorporate this into the DVD program as a menu choice so that the viewer can examine the sheet at their leisure? The viewers will need to be able to browse the file: – up, down, left, right, in, out, and maybe print.

That's not really something you can do easily in Premiere Elements, Dan.

A number of DVD authoring programs (like DVD Architect Studio) do allow you to include non-video files as additional files on your DVD -- but even these must be browsed on a computer rather than viewed on a DVD player/TV.

Another option (available with some DVD authoring programs ) is to offer a link to an online resource on which you've posted your spreadsheet, as many enhanced DVDs do. But then your viewer would have to have a DVD player with a connection to the internet.

I'm not sure there is a way to view an Excel file or PDF as part of a DVD.

I would be best to just include a separate data disk for that purpose.

When I created end of year DVDs for my daughter's swim team, I put all of the season's photos on a CD.

Steve and Peru,

Thanks for your quick responses. Your answers were not wholly unexpected. Peru, I was thinking that your suggestion of a separate disc was beginning to make a lot of sense. That will give me plenty of room to also include descent quality copies of the photos in case anyone wants them.

Thanks,
Dan

IndyDan

Your only other option maybe would be to make a video clip. or screen recording, of your spreadsheet and include that on your DVD.

I don't think that the resolution of the spreadsheet would be very good. It would be awkward trying to display about 175 lines.

It would be possible to get screen captures of the spreadsheet with something like Snagit, then those become images that you can add to your project and even make it scroll. You could also export the spreadsheet to a text file and import (copy and paste) that text to a scrolling menu or a Title. Just depends on how much work you want to put into it I guess.
