HitFilm 3 Express for free!

Postby Steve Grisetti » Wed Jul 15, 2015 7:34 am

Once again, the folks at HitFilm are giving away an Express version of their product for free.

Lots of great, free effects are included, and the page I've linked you to also includes inexpensive offers for add-on packs.

Grabbing this. :) What's the difference between express and standard?

EDIT: Just found the comparison chart. Quite a difference, but also Free vs. $300, and it looks to be worth the money if you can afford it.

Shameless plug: My course at lynda.com goes into depth exploring the features of the Pro edition.

I have skimmed some forums about Hitfilm 3,
and the preview of the tutorial at Lynda.com,
the software seems not to provide speed curves as Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas,
but just levels of speed corresponding to number 1,2,...

Is it the same in Express and Pro?

Thanks

I do not know of a feature for curving the speed of playback in HitFilm 3 Pro, Francesco.

Sorry, it looks like only expensive software have, apart from Cinelerra last versions.

Well, I'm way past worried about asking stupid questions, so here goes. I just watched this little tutorial https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=liduoxsYNsE

There wasn't even an option to either burn a dvd, or save to mpeg2. I realize everything is high def now, but generally speaking, and for people not even remotely into video editing, how do you give a copy of an mp4 to auntie sue to watch on her tv?

I never got into avchd stuff, so i can only assume it must be some kind of memory stick. What do you do, give out memory sticks like dvds in the olden days? Hope auntie sue can figure out how to watch the video?

Seems all backwards to me. All sorts of high end editing software, and no practical way to show it other than computer, which isn't really practical for auntie sue who is wanting to play dvd.

Do you have to down convert to dvd.... that seems crazy.

Sorry I'm so behind all this, but with so much hd video editing viewing it seems more difficult than before.

I'm slightly confused. Is HitFilm 3 Express a 'stand alone' program or should I be installing it into my SONY VEGAS 14 directory? I've downloaded the installer but am holding up to be sure I install it in the proper location.

Hi, I'm certainly no expert, but I think it's a standalone NLE program. Seems really nice too for a for free program.

Also, in looking through that little tutorial, I see that you can purchase what they call "premium formats" I guess that means codecs to export many more format types to file, but all this language is a codec to me LOL,

It's a standalone program. Some of the previous versions integrated with Vegas products, not sure about all of the latest ones without some workaround. But you could export your HF project to your HD and import that to Vegas. The latest version is HitFilm 4 Express, which is still free. As for integration, you should be able to launch it from the Vegas Pro 14 build 201 timeline, but I've seen reports of problems of bringing it back to Vegas.

Sorry, vk. I'm not sure how the HitFilm/Vegas relationship will come together in latest versions of the products.

Steve, as I said I'm not sure either:) My comment on the latest versions integration was based on a bug fix in build 201 of Vegas Pro 14 listed on MAGIX Vegas forum: "Hit Film Express interoperability is now functioning properly".
Source: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/ ... 1--104523/
The forum has at least one conflicting comment as I mentioned.

I must admit that I haven't had a chance to dig into the Vegas products since the Magix transition. (I've been busy wrapping up my PowerDirector book.) So thanks for your amazing advice and insight!

I hope to explore the new Vegas stuff after the new year.
