HitFilm2 Express for free till Feb 4, 2014

They ask you to share it on Twitter or Facebook.
If you don't have either of those, do what one user on another forum did.

I was able to download the free software without signing up for Twitter or Facebook. I clicked on the Twitter link, then I closed the Twitter window without signing up for Twitter. Hitfilms then prompted me to create an account (with Hitfilms). After that it gave me a serial number and sent me a email with an installer download. Installed and entered serial number.

Seems to be a great program with lots of tuts on their website. Superior track motion and other goodies.

Here's a vid on the track motion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uh-pRKV67r0
Go to 16:00 to see it in motion.

Pros are talking about this program like it's a real threat to After Effects.

The Express version comes with free muzzle flash effects for making look like a fake gun is producing real gunfire, for instance.

Real easy to use!

Looked at the demo and it has the same appearance as AE with compositing and layers.

The program seems somewhat complicated. Is AE that complicated?

They are very similar, as far as keyframing effects is concerned. If you're familiar with After Effects (or Apple's Motion) you should pick up HitFilm pretty quickly.

But HitFilm streamlines the process of creating some video effects.
