Power Director15 and Motion Tracker

Postby k2np818 » Wed Apr 12, 2017 11:07 pm

All:

Could not find a location for just Power Director so I am posting here.
I purchased and installed Director Suite 5 which has PowerDirector 15.

In using the tool I find it works pretty good. A little bit of learning curve (i found myself defaulting to Elements Premiere workflows) anyway
I can not get the Motion Tracker feature to work at all.
Followed several youtubes, guides,Cyberlink forum/community, etc. and no luck.

I found in the past this site to be the best place for answers.
Since I learned about Powerdirector here, I thought someone might be able to help.

Problem: Motion Tracker feature => I can invoke the feature in the tool. However, when I click on the "track" button to track the object nothing happens.
It does not track the object at all. The video plays but no tracking happens. it is strange .. CTI does not move, the video counters do not move/count.
I even tried to re-install the package and no luck...

Any ideas or suggestions on what my next steps should be?

A little long winded but I thought the background info would be helpful.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say that you "invoke the feature" -- but did you identify the object you're tracking? (I take you step by step through the process on page 106 in our book, if you have it.)

Have you tried this tool on any other videos? There's needs to be enough distinction between the object you're tracking and the background in order for the program to identify and track the object.

Can you post a screen capture of the video and the object you're trying to track so we can see what's up?

By invoke the feature I mean ...

1) I highlighted the video in the timeline.
2) went to TOOLS
3) selected Motion Tracker
4) Motion Tracker window opens with my highlighted video on the screen.

I do not have your book(yet) as I am trying to get a video out that I am behind on.
Just using YouTube and manual to get going. It seems like a simple process/step to use it and it is a nice solution/feature to add to my video.
But it seems to be my luck what seems to be simple always turns-out to be a lot more.

I have attached a screen capture.

Yes, I tried the TOOLS- Motion Tracker on several different videos.
I even downloaded the downhill skier one used by Cyberlink to demonstrate the feature and it still did not work.
The last one I tried is a 8-ball (Black against blue background). Still no luck.

Note: Getting your book is on my to do list. As I found your other books on Abode Elements Photoshop and Premiere are extremely helpful and easy to follow.

Thanks:
Ken

I'm not sure why that's no working, Ken.

The video you're tracking appears to be an MP4 -- but how was it produced? It's clearly not camcorder video. It could be that your animation doesn't have enough frames or that it is moving so fast that the program can't follow it.

Just as an experiment, I'd recommend shooting a short video with a camcorder and track an object in it -- just to ensure that the tool works.

Steve:

I started out with my own video, and that is when I noticed it did not work.
I then went to the youtube, manual, etc. to try and figure what was going on.
The tool does not work. Why I do not know, I am on that quest to figure out why...
And no luck to date. I am now reaching for any assistance, suggestions and guidance to get to a resolution.

Thanks:
Ken

Try using this clip. (Be sure to extract the MP4 first. Don't use it from within the Zip file.)

Track the man in the red shirt.

I've tried it and it definitely works.

Steve:

To keep the forum robust and to close the loop....
The issue with my Motion Tracker feature in PowerDirector was a codec conflict.
I had to unregister vsfilter.dll and everything now works fine.

This solution came from the Cyberlink Support. I do not think I would of uncovered this myself.

Thanks for your time and suggestions.

Sidenote: I also checked Premiere Elements 13 and things are all working fine. So, the removing the DLL did not negatively impact it.
