The new Fusion Camera

Postby sidd finch » Mon Apr 24, 2017 3:55 pm

Here is a new interesting piece of gear. It appears that the 360 camera might be finding a place in the world. GoPro is introducing the new Fusion Camera.

5.2K spherical camera designed to be the ultimate capture device for both fully immersive virtual reality content as well as conventional non-VR video and photo formats. Starting today, professional content creators can apply to participate in the pilot program which is expected to roll-out during the summer of 2017.

Fusion is a spherical device that can capture 5.2K resolution VR and non-VR videos and photos. If you want to take a non-VR pic, you can use its OverCapture feature that punches out the composition you want from a spherical image. GoPro founder CEO Nicholas Woodman describes the device as "six GoPro cameras fused into one" and says it "represents the state-of-the-art in versatile spherical capture." GoPro isn't quite ready to release it yet and has revealed but a few details about the device.

Looks like some more information is coming out on the new Fusion Camera.

There are two lenses, one on the front and one on the rear.It is bigger than the current Hero5 Black, and it's also fully square, and not oblong like the teaser images implied. The two lenses are set into the body without the typical GoPro square/flat protection cap. This is so that the camera can get an unobstructed view through 180-degrees, and not just straight ahead of it.

Despite having two "equal" sides, one of them has the classic small LCD display for showing what mode the camera is in. There are of course the usual power and highlight buttons too.
