Problem with SanDisk micro SD card

Postby Gerlinde » Mon Nov 30, 2015 2:22 pm

Last year i bought this micro SD card and used it many times without any problems in my GoPro Hero3 silver camera.

Last time I transferred videos something happened. I attempted to reformate the card in the camera and the camera locked up. I had to take out the battery to shut the camera off. I reformated the card in the computer, but the GoPro does not recognize the card anymore and will lockup until I remove the card.
I got a new GoPro 4 silver now and the card will work fine with this camera. So I was hoping after I put it back into the Hero 3 it would work there too, but no, no such luck. :(

Any other ideas I could try to get it working again?

If the card works in one of the cameras but not in the other, it sounds more like a problem with the camera rather than the card. Do you have a second card that you can try in the problem camera to see if that one works? If the second one doesn't work either, it's definitely the camera.

I have 2 other cards that work fine in the camera. I did a firmware update, hoping that would maybe fix it, but no change. As soon as I put the card in the camera, the camera becomes unresponsive.

You might want to try and format the card in the camera from the menu. This should correct any issues you are having.

[/Here are the steps to reformat your SD card with your HERO3 camera:
1.Power ON your camera with the SD card inserted.
2.Press the front (Power) button repeatedly until you see the wrench icon on the camera’s screen.
3.Press the top (Shutter) button one time.
4.Press the Power button repeatedly until you see a trashcan icon.
5.Press the Shutter button one time to select the trashcan icon.
6.Press the Power button until “ALL/Format” is highlighted.
7.Press the Shutter button one time to select “ALL/Format”.
8.Press the Power button until “Yes” is highlighted.
9.Press the Shutter button one time to select “Yes”. Your camera’s LED and the trashcan icon will blink to indicate that your SD card is being reformatted.

Once they stop blinking, power OFF/ON your camera, and your file counter should show 00.

Important – Take a picture. This confirms that your SD card is successfully reformatted.

Thanks, Sidd. The problem was that the camera became unresponsive with the card inserted, I could not get to the reformat option. But... I guess I fixed it now. I used my lens cloth and rubbed the connectors of the card and voilà it works all of a sudden. Of course that is right after I ordered a new card. :pull:

I have read that the GoPro cameras have had issues with the Sandisk 32GB Ultra SD Cards. GoPro has removed them from their recommendation list.

True! :-D

GoPro has removed them from their recommendation list.

That probably happened right after I bought the card. :-s
