The Reflecting Pool

Postby sidd finch » Wed Sep 09, 2015 5:30 pm

In the past I have posted a couple of videos of a goldfish pond I like to visit (https://vimeo.com/114497377, https://vimeo.com/80575200). I always thought it was more interesting to see what was going on under the water than on top of the water. This past weekend I happened to stop by at the right time. The sun was still rising and the pond was the clearest I have ever seen and best of all..... not a single person there (except me :)). So I recorded this:

The peace garden is authentic to the Eighteenth Dynasty of ancient Egypt, is based on examples of gardens from the remains of the city of Akhetaton, now called Amarna. The ancient Egyptians would relax in a garden like this next to their home—a garden full of medicinal plants and beautiful and fragrant flowers.

It is a pretty nice place to contemplate the joys of life.

So peaceful. As places go for a fish to live it doesn't look too bad. Beats a 5 gallon aquarium! Nicely done. :TU:

Awww the big guy wants to play and the little fish don't. Very nice Sidd! Looked like you were over the water in a few shots. Did you use a pole? And interesting moving bush at :21 :fg:

Yep, he caught 3 bass, a bluegill, and 2 carp before they arrested him. ;)

I didn't even notice that one. Sharp eye, Cheryl. The tale is in the reflection, though. :)

Did you use a pole?

Yes I used the camera and brushless gimbal attached to a pole and leaned over. Trying not to drop the whole thing in the water while my youngest looked on. Darn those wide angle lenses. :conf:

It is funny you say that Dave. I am sure if someone walked up and saw the pole and camera it would look like a fishing pole from a distance.

Wouldn't it be a hoot to stand there with a fishing pole and a rubber fish hanging off the line, just waiting for someone to come by? :hyst:

That is unless that next person coming by is the local law enforcement representative... :ha:

In our local news last week 3 police officers were charged with murder after they beat a mentally incapacitated prisoner.... in the jailhouse. Will you please excuse my squeamishness in perusing an encounter.

I've never seen fishpool water that clear and algae free, Sidd. You are obviously taking great care of your garden! Is this near the rose garden in your back yard?

It is very interesting to see the goldfish school. I had no idea they would do that in a large pool. Makes me wonder if mine do - but I'll never know. Pea soup, even in winter. Even with barley. And a large biological filter. I think we have too much :sunny: down south. Poor koi. He needs some friends his own size. Really enjoyable, as your videos are. Thanks!

Why yes the fishpond is across the street from our roses (big yard needs a street :)) FYI the plants growing along the back of the fish pond are papyrus. I did not know that they grew in around here.

I was pretty amazed that the fish schooled too. I think at some point someone just dumped them in there. But the fish are pretty cool to watch. When I arrived they were all sleeping and did not hear me as I walked up to the pond. The pond is usually pretty cloudy and algae filled. I am not sure why but all the algae seems to have all settled to the bottom on that day. Glad you enjoyed the video.
