GoPro announced the launch of the lightest, smallest camera in its catalog on Monday.

The HERO4 Session, which is half the size and 40% the weight of the company's flagship HERO4 Black and Silver cameras, will retail for $399.99, and will be available starting July 12.

The Session is a 1.5-inch cube that weighs only 2.6 ounces. It’s waterproof to 33 feet on its own, and doesn’t require any additional housing. In its included frame mount, the Session is 50 percent smaller than a Hero4 Silver or Black is inside its waterproof shell, and it’s 35 percent lighter, too.

Sidd, How is the stability of a camera that small? It always seemed to me that the smaller the camera the more unstable and therefore more movement.

Chuck the stability is not very good for either the session or the regular GoPro. They have no stabilization built into the camera. The ultra wide angle helps to minimize the shaky perception. I like the small form factor but for the price the feature set is pretty lacking. My assumption is that in order to boost sales GoPro will release a firmware update at Christmas. Similar to what they did when the Hero 4 was released.
