Ghost in the Motion path

Postby sififraser » Tue Aug 12, 2014 5:14 pm

I'm having problems with ghost motion paths.
Let's say I've created a motion path for a clip and then decide to change it. So I erase everything but the start point and then put in a new endpoint. Sometimes the ghost of the original motion path is still there. The only way I've found to trash it is to press 'Toggle animation' which, of course trashes my start point as well.
Am I doing something wrong and is there a way around this?

Can you describe how exactly you are creating and removing your motion path?

There are a number of ways to do it in Premiere Elements 12.

Let's say I have a clip of a man sitting at a desk writing a letter. Towards the end of the shot he pauses and chews the end of his pen as he thinks.
I select the clip- open 'Applied Effects/ Motion - adjust the position and scale (either dragging or changing the numbers) for the start of the clip - (The shot zooms in on his hands writing) I find the point in the clip where the zoom should end and reframe the shot as close up of his hands -(The shot then pans up to his face) I find the point in the clip where the pan should start and enter the current scale and position - find the point where the pan should end and reframe the shot on his face. I enter the position and scale values.
When I run the clip I realise it's all too much, so I erase all the position and scale markers except the first one and the last one. Instead of getting a slow Zoom, I get a mix of the new and the old motion paths.
I can see the old motion path on the image even though the position/scale points that created it are no longer there.
Is there a way of blitzing the motion path once it has been created?

Did you turn on Toggle Animation and create keyframes? If so, removing the motion path is as sample as deleting those keyframes. You can also simple toggle off the animation to remove the keyframe and then toggle it back on again to create a new path.

Yes I did toggle animation and create keyframes. My problem is that when i remove some keyframes and enter new ones, the old path is still there. It is only by toggleing off the animation that it can be removed completely.

I'm not sure why you're seeing a ghost of the old path, assuming you're definitely removing all of the keyframes. But turning Toggle Animation off and then on again will definitely clear them all.

Hi Steve,
I think I've solved my problem. I had the spacial Interpolation set to auto bezier ( is that normal?) so any changes in direction of the motion path was rounded out resulting in an apparent overrun.
So. . . no Ghost, just operator error.
I'm sorry to have wasted your time, but thanks anyway.

Nope. Makes perfect sense. Glad you could figure it out, sifi.
