Huh! I just went back and opened an audio clip in the clip editor and it worked
I don't know why it wasn't working the last time I tried it.
btw clarify "timeline panel"? I'm thinking that would be all audio/video clips, 1-n, at the bottom of the screen; right?
I was in the clip editor when I couldn't get the arrow keys to work, so I think I had clicked on the clip in the assets section.
I have a f/u on the blotchy image issue; but I'll go back to that question and add it there
