Help!! Frozen Action Bar

Specific to Premiere Elements Version 12.

Help!! Frozen Action Bar

Postby yosale » Wed Oct 16, 2013 3:57 pm

I selected a clip on the timeline, andI used Tools/Smart Trim. Nothing happened except that the screen froze. All the tools on the action bar were grayed out. I had to abort the project.

BTW, I ordered your PRE 12 book and am looking forward to use it as a reference guide.

How long is the clip and how long did you wait before aborting? Sometimes it takes a little time for the smart trim to work, depending on the length of the clip, the format, project settings and computer speed.

Further Chuck's point, Premiere Elements needs to auto-analyze your media before it can set up Smart Trim areas. You can speed this process a bit by right-clicking on your video in the Elements Organizer and selecting the option to manually Auto/Media Analyze it. This will generate the metadata necessary for Auto Trim to do it's job.

Though there are, of course, many factors to consider. What model of camcorder is your video coming from and what format and resolution is it? What processor is in your computer, how much RAM do you have and how much free, clean, defragmented free space is on your hard drive?
