Motion Tracking

Postby RJ Johnston » Mon Sep 30, 2013 9:39 pm

Motion tracking is much, much better than in Pre 10 and prior versions. There wasn't any in version 11.

After tracking an object, I had trouble attaching a graphic to the object. The yellow square surrounding an object that's been tracked should turn to blue when you select it, after which you can drag a graphic onto the square. I couldn't get it to turn to blue no matter where I clicked in the preview window. Eventually, I discovered that you need to split the clip at the place where you want object tracking to start, and have the CTI at the beginning of the clip before initiating motion tracking. Only after doing that can you select the yellow selection square and make it turn blue when you click on it.

If you drag a graphic to a yellow square, then the graphic will just stay stationary and not follow the object.

I'm not sure how Motion Tracking is suppose to work, but that's how I managed to get it to work.

Hi,

I want to pixelate a person's face in a video using motion tracking. I have watched this being done within a video in Photoshop Elements 12 so I understand the basic principle using the tracking square and key frames. Can I do the same thing in Premiere Elements 12 or do I have to cover the face with a cartoon image?

Any help would be wonderful,

Many thanks,
Stuart

Hi, Stuart. Welcome to Muvipix.

You can certainly blur out a face in Premiere Elements using the Mosaic effect combined with the Track Matte. It's a little complicated to explain here on the forum, but we do show you how to do it step by step in our special effects book "Cool Tricks & Hot Tips for Premiere Elements 11" (which also works for version 12).
