Smart mix

Postby AllieB » Tue May 06, 2014 3:44 pm

Hi all,

I am working with Premiere Elements V11; since months I use the smart mix because it's easy to modify the keyframes when they are already at the right place.

As my output are only slideshows, made in ProShowProducer, there is no audio available.
Bringing in the audio, this is only background, I lower the level let me say -6dB on the whole soundtrack. Next I put the narration on the timeline, which already was recorded in Audacity. Then I select smartmix, set soundtrack to background and narration to foreground. Surprise: the earlier -6dB is set to zero dB and from that level the sound is at every narration lowered according the level in preferences. So I have manually bring back the 0dB to -6dB, which in fact, depends on the number of text, is an extra task. As said this is going a long time but now it's becoming a little bit fustrating.

Is here something I miss or is this a normal behaviour? O.K. it is not that important but I am still wondering.

Thanks for reading,
AllieB

Can you post a screen capture of your timeline after you've applied Smart Mix, Allie? It might be easier to see what's going on when we can actually see what's going on.

@ Steve,

this morning I made a simple testshow, the attachments will show you the details.

In the before version I put the audio-level to -12dB to clarify the difference with the after level.
After using the smart mix feature the audio-level is set to 0dB, except where a narration is placed.
Placing the audio on the soundtrack gives the same behaviour.

I know that a workaroud could be to run first the smart mix and afterwards adjust the music level but in practice
often I make changes to narrations or the slideshow and everything has to be done once more.

I hope the attachtments will clarify what I mean. For the moment thanks for looking into it.

Thanks for the pictures, Allie. But it looks like Smart Mix is doing exactly what it's supposed to do.

I don't know any way to tell Smart Mix to leave the levels of a track as is. It's always going to set a track's level to either 100%, fading back or off completely.

Thanks for looking into it Steve.

It is as it is, I hoped there was a way to reduced the volume from the level at is.

Thanks again,
AllieB
