Camcorder Question

Postby Ric » Wed Mar 05, 2014 3:15 pm

I'm using PRE 11 and I'm thinking of buying a newer camcorder. Right now I have a JVC professional DV GY-DV300 which takes the mini DV tapes and it works fine. But now I'm thinking of upgrading my camcorder to a Sony HDR AX2000 at a good price and was wondering if I was going to have any problems or issues uploading the video to PRE11? If anyone have any idea please let me know I don't want to buy it and find out this wasn't a camcorder for me. I know at one time the mini DV tape was the best way to go but that was 4 or 5 versions ago. Let me know what your thoughts are would be great.

I don't know. That's a pretty high-end, professional camcorder and, although it claims to shoot in AVCHD, some people find pro camcorders don't interface well with this little $75 program.

That said, all the specs say it shoots regular AVCHD, so there's no reason it shouldn't work.

Is it available to get some test footage?

I was going to see if I could use it for a little bit first before I buy it. Is there anything I should do or don't do to make sure I get some video. I was going to bring both camcorders because this is the last basketball game for the year and I need some video footage from it and I'm afraid if I only use the newer camera and have any issues transferring the video to PRE 11 I'm in trouble what do you think?

So shoot the video in regular AVCHD is what you are saying correct?

Regarding the software, from the specs on the Sony site:

Software
Operating System Compatibility : "Windows XP SP3 * /Windows Vista SP2 ** /Windows7 * 64-bit editions and Starter (Edition) are not supported. The Windows Image Mastering API(IMAPI)Ver.2.0 or later is required to use the function for creating discs. ** Starter (Edition) are not supported. Standard installation is required. Operation is not assured if the above OS has been upgraded or in a multi-boot environment."
Supplied Software : Content Management Utility 1.0.00 . Supports Microsoft Windows XP SP3*, Windows Vista SP2**, Windows 7. "*64-bit editions and Starter (Edition) are not supported. ** Starter (Edition) is not supported. Standard installation is required. Operation is not assured if the above OS has been upgraded or in a multi-boot environment.

The color emphasis is mine. I could be wrong, but if I'm understanding this correctly it sounds it's not compatible with 64 bit versions of Windows. What does everyone else think?

That's for the Content Management Utility included with the camera. I think there was an update that supports Windows 7 64-bit. It's still available, but, that software has been replaced by their Content Browser software.

As Dave points out, this is a note on the specs for the camcorder.

Just shoot some footage with the Sony HDR AX2000 and put the video in PRE 10 and 11 my question is I can not view the video in the program monitor in PRE10 I can only hear the audio track. Now in PRE 11 I can view and hear it all. Any ideas why it is not work right in the PRE 10 program?

It is strange that you can see it in one program and not the other.

Version 11 is pretty advanced, compared to version 10.

In version 10, you need to manually set up your project. Did you select project settings for Full AVCHD 1920x1080 when you started your project? You can see if these are your settings by checking under the Edit menu.

No I manually did not. But when I dropped the files in to the program it said it was the wrong file format I think or something like that. And it asked if I wanted the program to fix that and I said yes. But I didn't get that question from version 11 it just loaded. Should I remove the files go in to project setting and reload the file and see if it will work then?

I went to project setting and the Media Source is shaded a light gray and can not be changed. I clicked playback setting and changed but could only get 480I is there somewhere else it can be changed. When I changed to 480 I could then see the video but it was choppy has heck and freezing up not smooth at all. Any ideas?

You can't change project settings mid-project in version 10.

But what project settings are listed?

The first time you create a project with specs to match your video, the program should download the necessary components from Adobe.

I started a brand new project and when I select project setting and then the general tab. The Editing Mode shows HDV 1080i but it is shaded and can't be changed for some reason. What do you think is the problem?
