Another Aspect ration question

Postby pch006 » Sun Mar 10, 2013 2:54 pm

Hi, group... I've been working on a large project still using my SD Canon GL2 shooting in 4/3. All going fine. Then, I thought, since it is such a major project, perhaps I should shoot in in 16/9 so... Shot a bunch of footage and started a new project file. Since PrE 11 is supposed to adjust the size automatically, everything looked fine while editing. When I rendered the footage it came out all very strange and not like how it looked when I was editing. So... opened a new project and went to New Project /edit /change settings/ DV/Widescreen. In the definition it said 16/9. Clicked okay and then edited a little footage and rendered it. It came out all wrong again. Now... and I doing something wrong or is this a PrE11 bug?

Can you be a little more specific about how "it came out all wrong again", Paul?

The GL2 is a miniDV camcorder, right? Can you confirm (by looking under Edit/Project Settings) that the program set up your project for 720x480 widescreen (Pixel aspect ratio 1.2).

Which Publish & Share output did you use that gave you the "strange" results?

The top 3/4 is how it SHOULD look. In the project settings it doesn't say anything about 16/9 or Widescreen even though I selected it.

What settings does it show under Project Settings, Paul? Does it show 720x480?

And can you confirm that you captured this video with Premiere Elements over a FireWire connection?

Yes, it shows 720/480 and I captured the video over firewire directly to PrE 11. I also have a small canon ZR960 that shoots wide (not HD) and I did a test with it to make sure it didn't have anything to do with my GL2 ... same problem: Looks just fine when I am editing it but the same results as above.

And what settings are you using to output it for YouTube?

I'd recommend you try Publish & Share/Computer/AVCHD with the YouTube Widescreen SD preset.

Just to make sure, I tried it again in PrE-8 and, this time, in the project settings is says 720/480 and 16/9 but when I render, I get the same results as in PrE 11. I wonder if it is something really stupid I am not doing like remembering to turn on the monitor!

Didn't see your reply. What I have done with all my other videos is render in AVI and then, with Roxio, convert the video to WMV to upload to YouTube. The video I posted here, I rendered in AVI and that's how it looked before I converted it to WMV

That's probably not the best way to do it, Paul. Try my way.

LOL, Steve.... I was right! It WAS the "Stupid Paul" syndrome! When you go to Share and choose AVI there is also the little box that says, Presets: DVNTSCstandard with a little down arrow next to it. I clicked the little arrow and got the option: DVNTSC Widescreen! Guess what??? Anyway... that's for putting up with my stupidity?

Glad I could help, Paul. But I still recommend, if you're upload to YouTube, you output an AVCHD file. You'll get much better results than if you output an AVI and then convert it to a WMV.
