Mixed Media Assembly for DVD

Postby Simon Silverstein » Sun Feb 03, 2013 6:05 pm

I have a project that will end up as a DVD, hopefully with a DV widescreen format. The project is being created by using different projects, which will eventually be exported to a Master widescreen dv project that will be used to create a DVD.. The projects to be eventually assembled are: 1. AVCHD widecreen from Canon AVCHD Camcorder 2. dv 4:3 from Canon mini dv camcorder 3. photos of assorted sizes (no giant files).

I know I am supposed to Export these divergent files and then drop them into the Master Project. My questions are these:
1.When I am ready to Export, what settings do I use as the Export settings.
2. What settings should the target files be that I export them to?
3. I assume the final Master Project should be dv widescreen. Is that correct?
Obviously, I am trying to avoid distortion of the divergent photos and video formats, while getting the highest quality video result.

My suggestion would be first to set up a new project using the settings for DV Widescreen. Make sure you check the option to Force Settings On Project on the New Project screen.

If you do that, you should be able to assemble even that mix of footage in version 11 and get very good results. (I'd recommend you keep the photos at no larger than 1000x750 pixels in size, of course.) Unlike previous versions of the program, Premiere Elements 11 handles a mix of video formats surprisingly well!

Here's a test I did just randomly throwing a mix of video into a project.

I agree with Steve, just start a DV Widescreen project and add all of your footage.
Premiere Elements 11 handles the mix of formats and codecs very well.
