Multiple Edit Programs on One PC

Postby Simon Silverstein » Sat Jan 12, 2013 3:52 pm

I have PRE 7 and Sony Vegas Platinum HD installed on my laptop. It has core i7 processor and 8 GB RAM.
I am thinking of installing PRE 11 on the same laptop. I have two questions about this:
1. Would there be any conflicts/ bugs created by having these three programs run on the same machine?
2. Could I transfer video files among the three programs?

They should be able to peacefully coexist on the same machine. You won't be able to freely share project files between the three applications, but as long as you export to a standard video format, the exported video should be able to be imported and used in the other programs.

As Bob says, several different editing programs can certainly live on your computer at once. Because of the research and writing I do, I've got several versions and several different programs on mine!

You can certainly pass videos between them -- just not project files. Videos -- particularly DV-AVIs, DV-MOVs and M2Ts (both HDV and AVCHD) -- are universally supported by all current video editors.
