version 11 for vista 64 bit

Postby videovillageidiot » Wed Nov 21, 2012 10:28 pm

sorry if this has been asked previously, but...if i have vista 64 bit will i be able to use premiere elements 11 and get the most out of it? yeah, weird question, but...this is what the adobe site says regarding running pre11 on vista... "Windows Vista® (all applications run native on 32-bit operating systems and in 32-bit compatibility mode on 64-bit operating systems)" so, my question has to do with whether i will get the full benefit of the program with my operating system?

i've been wanting to try out this version (and Office Max has the bundle for 69.99 on Black Friday). but i don't know if the vista 64 bit is a problem. my system is a quad core so it's got ooooomph, just don't know if my operating system is good enough for 11.

hope this makes sense. thanks!

Might want to think about upgrading to Windows 7, I would highly recommend it ;)

The 64-bit versions of Premiere Elemetnts will only work on Windows 7 64-bit. And I agree with Chuck: Although Microsoft has done a very good job of patching leaks in Vista, Windows 7 is the closest Microsoft has come to creating a perfect operating system.

If you've already got Vista 64, upgrading to Windows 7 64 should be pretty simple. And you can find an upgrade kit for about $75 or less on Amazon and eBay. It's a great investment.

Or for only $40, you can upgrade to Windows 8, another solid operating system (if you don't mind its checkerboard interface).

Thanks Chuck and Steve...it's taken me awhile to get back to this topic.

Steve, are you saying premiere elements 11 will NOT run at all on my vista 64 bit?

The 32-bit version will. But the 64-bit version will only run on Windows 7 64-bit (according to Adobe).

um...the software box says "Adobe Premiere Elements 11 is native 64-bit software". are there 2 different versions on the install disk or do i need to purchase a different version? i haven't opened the box, yet, in case i can't use it and need to return.

Your box should include installation disks for Windows 32-bit, Windows 64-bit and Mac OSX. (It's only optimized for 64-bit on 64-bit versions of Windows 7 and Mac OSX.)

Doesn't your box say it's compatible with Windows XP, Vista, 7 and Mac OSX?

Only 2 discs - one for Windows and one for Mac OS. The installation on my Win 7-64 machine didn't ask whether I wanted 32 or 64 bit so I assume it just looked at the system and determined the appropriate one. In the root of the install disc there's a folder called Adobe Premiere Elements 11. In it is two folders - one called PRE 32 and one called PRE 64. There is also the Setup.exe installation file. If you go into either of the folders you can find setup files in them, but if you try to use them directly you'll get the following message: "Install Adobe Premiere Elements 11 using the setup.exe in the root folder." This leads me to believe that they want you to allow the setup routine to determine the best version for your OS.

Yes, Steve, it says the same thing as i quoted from their web site (in my original post)...
"Windows Vista® (all applications run native on 32-bit operating systems and in 32-bit compatibility mode on 64-bit operating systems)"

my problem is i don't understand what that means. but based on Dave's experience with the installation (and the ringing endorsement from Chuck and you) i'm going to go ahead and try the install. i have some "weirdisms" with my computer and will probably have to have vista reinstalled anyway, so the elements install is completely reversible! haha

THANKS ALL!!!!!!!!

It means that it doesn't matter if you have the 64 bit version of Vista...it's going to install as 32 bit (which is what Steve said earlier). Have you considered upgrading to Win 7-64? It would be a worthwhile investment. Of course one thing leads to another. You'd probably want to add some RAM too to take advantage of its ability to make use of it.

Edit: Oh, yeah. That's already been suggested. Sorry.

i installed (premiere elements only, so far...not ps elements). i grabbed some mts files from my vixia hfr300. i burned an avchd disk. a little over 12 minutes of video encoded and burned in a little over a half hour. it played ok on my blue ray player. looks like different options for sharing for use on a computer from my previous versions of 4 and 9. i'll have to check those out.

this version certainly does look different from my previous ones, like everyone has already commented on. my favorite thing so far? i can hover over a clip on the timeline and see the start and stop times as well as the duration. in version 9 that information blinked rapidly and i could not read it...very frustrating (this did not happen in 4...it displayed constantly when i hovered). so far, i like 11!!!

So far so good!!!

Thanks again!

PS...i am looking into an upgrade to 7-64 bit. but if 11 works well on my vista-64 OS i may stick with it.
