Preview Quality Better in Quick Mode

Preview Quality Better in Quick Mode

Postby RJ Johnston » Wed Oct 31, 2012 3:57 am

I noticed that even after rendering the timeline in a DV project, the preview did not play back as smoothly as I had hoped. I tried a whole bunch of stuff, and then I decided to try the preview in Quick mode. Immediately, the playback was steady. There must be something in Expert mode that is causing the unsteady playback (on my slowish machine).

What an interesting observation, Robert! I'd always assumed the two timelines were just two sides of the same coin. I wonder how (or why) they interpret the same video differently.

Steve, I don't think the video is being interpreted differently, I believe it has to do with the way the user interface is refreshed -- maybe more than needed. But that's just a theory. If you have a fast computer, you may not notice it as much as I do.

One thing I did notice is that that larger Monitor in version 11 draws a lot more power than that of the older versions. (Although, again, on a faster computer, you won't even notice.) Testing the program on a slower computer, I found that I couldn't get smooth playback -- unless I right-clicked on the Monitor and set the zoom level to 100% rather than Fit. Then it played perfectly.

Hi Steve, I tried the 100% zoom and automatic preview mode, but that didn't help this time as it did in a prior version. When I go all the way back to version 7, preview plays perfectly. It's very noticeable when panning a photo left to right.
