Project Settings

Postby Rafterman » Wed May 18, 2011 2:20 pm

I an new to video editing but while using different demo packages I noticed most apps require you to establish video settings when setting up a new project. Now if my orignal footage is avchd 1280x720(16:9) 50fps but I am going to create an SD pal DVD from it using the video editing software what should my new project settings be set as:

1. Should it be the same as the original video 1280x720(16:9) 50fps

or

2. Should it be the output settings 720x576(16:9) 25fps.

Hi Rafterman,
Welcome to Muvipix :wcm:

Project settings are always based on the original footage, in your case;
AVCHD 720p 50

That way the program knows what format it is dealing with.
The video can then be exported in any number of formats when you are finished editing.

Not all editing applications handle this the same way and not all are able to import AVCHD,
but in general this is the case. Depending on what editing application you are using your mileage may vary ;)

Cheers Chuck that clears that up for me and good to know it. I just need to make sure the app I finially go with can import AVCHD as that is the format my camera uses. Oh and thanks for the welcome.

Just be sure you verify what form of AVCHD that is, as there are different flavors.
Sony Vegas Studio and Premiere Elements do a pretty good job with all forms of AVCHD these days. Chances are there are folks here with the same camera you have and can tell you what they are using and the struggles they've had if any.
