Windows Media Encoder/Expression Encoder

Postby brenda » Mon Feb 28, 2011 5:48 pm

Two questions:

1. I know I learned from Muvipix how to capture a computer screen using Windows Media Encoder 9, yet I can't find the tutorial on your website. Maybe one of you Muvipix gurus told me how to do it and I just thought I watched one of your tutorials? Still, I can't find the place in your forums where it was discussed - although it may not be archived any more because I did the encoding a couple of years ago. Do you have anything already on your website that explains how to do it?

2. I don't have the Encoder on this computer, and when I went to Microsoft to download it I saw it was discontinued, so I downloaded the free Windows Expression Encoder 3. It seems to be a more sophisticated freebie, and I'm having trouble figuring out the proper settings. Also, it does not export to avi. I seem to recall that Windows Media Encoder didn't either, and that I had to use another free Microsoft product to convert the encoded output into an avi - but I can't recall what to do.

Hi Brenda,
There are lots of instructions available about WME9, here are some of them;

You can convert from the created WMV files to AVI using Windows Movie Maker, we do have a free tutorial that covers that process.

You should be able to download the Encoder here

Thanks so much Chuck!

For something as basic as capturing computer screen footage, I'd rather use the WM Encoder, which I'm still somewhat familiar with, than to try to learn this new Expression Encoder.

By the way, after a year away from Elements, I had forgotten just about everything I had learned. Fortunately your tutorials are there for a quick refresher course.
