MPEG Streamclip ... Any one here using it as it keep crashin

Postby MGadAllah » Sun Jan 02, 2011 3:07 pm

Hello,

Please I've two questions about MPEG_Streamclip:-

1) Where exactly I can enable the required extra quick time plug ins for quick time alternate 1.81?

2) Each time I add any .vob file I found the MPEG_Streamclip totally closed and disappear?

Thanks and much appreciated.

Here's a download site for Quicktime Alternative.
http://filehippo.com/download_quicktime_alternative/

Though you should also have Quicktime's current version on your computer.

You also make find that the program calls for the MPEG-2 Playback Component. If so, it's available from http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2189Z/A

I think it costs $19.99.

I'm not sure if the program will still run even if you don't buy that component, but it might be worth a try.

Remember, per my other post, to use the Export to DV option, not the Export to AVI option.

I'd like to ask if I am going to buy something shall I buy QuickTime 7 Pro for Windows (does it include the component I'm after) or I just need to buy the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component for Windows only?

- Later Edit -
Please I've forget to ask if using MPEG_Streamclip will reduce the .vob file I am gonna to export or not?
As this is the main point for me to be able on to import it later on into Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 then complete the project.
My idea is to use a very high quality source file.

Also where exactly I can enable the required extra quick time plug ins for quick time alternate 1.81?

I'm sorry, but I don't know much about Quicktime Alternative other than where to download it from.

No, MPEG Streamclip will not shrink your VOBs file size. In fact, the AVI file you output will likely be much larger than the VOB! But it's a much more compatible file for editing with.

There are a number of programs out there for making video files smaller. But making a video file smaller does not make it more editable. In fact, usually the opposite is true.

Are you trying to make the VOB smaller so you can display it on a web site, Mohamed? Or are you trying to convert it to a format that you can edit with Premiere Elements?

Quote from the MPEGStreamclip page:
KL QuickTime Alternative is a free unofficial distribution of QuickTime. It has a quite smaller installer (less than 15 MB) and includes MPEG-2 decoding in the "Additional plugins". When you install it, be sure to enable the checkbox "Additional plugins", otherwise the MPEG-2 decoder will not be installed. You can choose either the full or the lite version.

The mian point for me is to import the media files into adobe permiere pro cs4 then export it as a .flv file to upload it later on to youtube.
I was thinking about using a third party to reduce video files for .vob then import resulted reduced files into adobe premiere pro cs4, this was the reason for thinking about MPEGStreamingClip.
When you install it, be sure to enable the checkbox "Additional plugins", otherwise the MPEG-2 decoder will not be installed.
Where exactly I can enable such settings as I've tried all possibilities but can not find it at all.

Are you sure you are using Quicktime Alternative 1.8.1 ??? Newer versions do not have the additional plugins.

OK, if you look at your 4th screen capture you can see that "Additional Plugins" is checked. In your 2nd screen capture, although you can not see the sentence it says... "Additional Quicktime Plugins: MPEG2 plugin". So you have definately installed the MPEG2 plugin that allows you to work with VOB and MPEG2 files.
