Splitting a video file without losing anything

Postby MGadAllah » Sat Jan 01, 2011 4:23 pm

Hello,

Something really annoying me and I do not know how to solve it.

After finishing my video project I used to export it as a FLV, small web, flash player 8 or higher.

That is resulting in a somehow small, good and acceptable quality for me so I can upload it later on to youtube or any other video library website.

When I view the resulted file I can see the voice working good with the mouse lips for the one who is talking.

When I want to split the video file I am using the product Boilsoft video splitter and I found the video quality is good and still the same but the voice is not working good and it is behind or forward the mouse lips move.

So please do you know any good tool that enabling splitting the video file without losing any audio/video quality and keep things the same?

Thanks
Just learning!

What program are you editing the original video in?

What type of camcorder did the original video come from?

Here are the steps I am following from A to Z:-
  • I import the original clip into Adobe Premiere Pro CS4.
  • This is the original video file details

I am sorry for these volume of information but I do not know a lot about videos and this why I thought to post all information I've.

I keep trying different splitter and cutter software but always got the same result that audio is not walk exactly with audio.

Thanks a lot and much appreciated.

The problem is most likely that you are using a VOB file as your source footage. Because of the way VOBs compress their video data, you can run into out of sync problems occasionally with them.

If you use a program like MPEG Streamclip to convert the VOB to a DV-AVI and bring that AVI into Premiere Elements, your problem will likely go away.

MPEG Streamclip is free. Here, from my book, is how to use it to convert a DV-AVI:

Open the VOB file with MPEG Streamclip and then open the AVI/DivX Exporter window from File/Export to AVI.

For Compression select the Apple DV/DVPRO_NTSC (or DV PAL, if appropriate) codec.
For Field Order select Lower Field First.
Change the default sound settings from MPEG Layer 3 to Uncompressed.

If you have widescreen footage click on the Options at the top right. Leave the Scan Mode as is but change the Aspect Ratio from 4:3 to 16:9.

If you would like to save these settings, click on the Presets button at the bottom left then click on the New button to name and save your settings. The next time you run MPEG Streamclip, you can go directly to the Presets button and Load your saved settings.

Click on “Make AVI” and choose a folder and filename for your DV-AVI file.

Is it really true that I should install quick time alternate 1.8?

-Later Edit-
  • I've installed it as requested but I can not find the settings I should enable to work properly with MPEG Streamclip.
  • Also regarding Adobe Premiere Elements, I've realized that most replies and posts in the forum refer to it when explaining doing anything, shall I drop Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and use Elements?
  • Also do you accept anything other then PayPal as I am from Egypt which is not listed in PayPal.

There is no need to drop Premiere Pro CS4. The reason most posts and replies refer to Premiere Elements is simply that, as a consumer level product, most people on the forum are using Premiere Elements. Premiere Pro CS4 is a professional level product with more capability, but the interface is a bit more complex and it doesn't include the consumer oriented fluff. I think you will be fine once you learn how to use it more effectively.

Rather than try to split your movie into multiple parts after you export to flv, why don't you just export each section directly from Premiere Pro? That way you avoid the complications of a third party splitter.

That is really a very smart and clever idea.
But how to determine the amount or volume or the space of the project to export given that there are too many thing combined in the same project?
Thanks :)

What about my PayPal question?

How are you doing it now?

When you export a sequence, the export settings panel will give you an estimate of the file size. The same panel also allows you to set the range to export. You can tell it to export the full sequence, or use the work area bar like in Elements, or you can set custom in and out points. It's very easy to set an export segment, check the estimated size, and queue the export.

Have you taken any of the Premiere Pro courses at Lynda.com? http://www.lynda.com/home/ViewCourses.aspx?lpk0=396

Someone else (Ron?) will need to answer your paypal question.

At this point, PayPal is our only means of accepting payment, MGadAllah.

Do you accept anything else for donations like money bookers?

Just want to say that splitting is working awesome and video is synchronized brilliant with its audio.
Thanks a lot as I do owe you a lot guys.
One last thing do you think that using MPEG Streamclip will reduce the .vob file size without reducing any quality!? as I do not know which preset I should use to have DV-AVI you suggested above.
Thanks a lot and totally much appreciated.

If there's a way to send funds to a PayPal account, then I guess it would be possible. Otherwise, PayPal is our only way, sorry.

That means a lot, Mohamed. But, especially working over international borders, PayPal is just about the only way we can currently accept payments.

But we're glad to have you as part of our community in any form you can!
