In order to edit a custom profile, you first have to create one.
1. On the Produce tab, click the h264/AVCHD button
2. Select the profile you want to start with.
3. Click the button with the plus sign "+" to start the custom profile.
4. Give it a meaningful name.
5. Make changes to other settings.
6. Click OK.
7. Now you have a custom profile.

Thanks! I figured it was a simple file edit. I was browsing through all the files, but couldn't find anything because I haven't made any custom profiles. I might be uninstalling Sony Vegas quite soon.

Have you done the "2 gig memory cap fix" in your Sony VNS 9 or 10 yet ? - it really did wonders for me in VNS 9 -I have done it to VNS 10 but have not rendered anything yet...
Details at "sonycreativesoftware.com/forums - search for "2GB Cap fix"

I can't find anything on that forum related to a "2GB Cap fix". Do you have a direct link to the post?

This is the URL to the thread - There is a lot of related background to this whole windows memory use thing over there - probably worth reading about - if you are running 32 bit programs you are really not getting max use of your RAM = buying tons of memory does not make you faster in a 32 bit envirnment.... Doing this fix eliminates lots of rendering crashes as well - seem to be general agreement on that from users .. provide some feed back here if you would. K

My last post will give you the files that need to be changed in VNS 10 but not the "how to change them" - Most of the tread on this subject was done for VNS9 and that is contained in this URL -

I cannot find the entire fix layed out for VNS 10 but these two URL's do tell you what to do and what ot do it to ... SBT, K

But I'm using the 64-bit version of Vegas... So none of that would apply to me, right?

That is correct - but to be honest -I was not aware of a 64 bit version of the Sony vegas program... I am using Vegas Movie Studio HD plat on a 64 bit PC - but it runs as a 32 bit program ...
Maybe an expert will jump in to "splain" . K

Yes, it is Vegas Pro, but it's the 64-bit version only.

If I render a video with a regular 1280x720 video with maybe a small PNG watermark, it can take probably 1x or faster to render. If I add some transitions and lower-thirds, that can easily double the render time. I'm getting similar render times with both my previous MacBook Pro (2.66GHz Core 2 Duo, 8GB RAM, 9600M GT) and my current MSI GT680R (2.00GHz (2.90GHz Turbo Boost), 8GB RAM, GTX 460M).

Here's a quick 5-second clip that I whipped up. Takes 17 second to render to 1280x720, 4Mbps video, 128Kbps audio (same render time for both Sony AVC .mp4 and .WMV.
