WinDV Configuration Boxes

Postby BobWard » Mon May 17, 2010 7:49 pm

I am using WinDv to convert my vhs tapes to DV AVI format.

I have converted 6 tapes so far and everything is going well. However, I cannot find any info on how best to handle the configuration boxes that are on the program interface.

I have it configured as follows:

"type 2-AVI" - box checked

Discontinuity treshold (sec) = 1 (what does this mean?)

Max AVI size (frames) = 50,000

Every N-th frame = 1 (what does this mean?)

Are these settings going to cause any issues when I go to edit the DV AVI files in video editing software?

I have always left them at the defaults Bob and everything has been fine.
Type 2 is the correct AVI type to work with Premiere Elements
That is all except the max size. That is the maximum number of frames per file.
I have mine set to 108000, that is 60 minutes I believe.
55000 would be about 30 minutes.
Not sure what the others are for and I don't know that it matters.
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.
